Checking KBB.com, based on Laramie 5.5 bed, 12,000mi, excellent condition, and the highest private party value.
Kbb shows basically $50,000 for the '24 hemi, and $51,200 for the '25 hurricane.

Seems that's a bigger hit on the hurricane, as the year-to-year difference in price on a $50k vehicle would normally be more like $5,000.

Seems like the hemi vehicle may be a better investment. Yes, figures will vary with Nada etc, but Kbb is pretty well respected I think.

Ok. Rather than focusing on the word "investment," how about looking at which Ram/engine combo is holding its value.

With the '25 hurricane having basically the same value as a year older hemi, acvording to Kbb in the example offered, that may not bode well for future value of hurricanes.

It may matter a lot to folks who trade them frequently.

It's sorta lopsided to compare two vehicle platforms, one with so little history. Not to mention the '24 Hemi was potentially valued better because it was believed to be the last of this configuration.
For the '26 model year it will be a closer comparison as both powertrains will be in the same platform of truck. The only exception is the Hemi option is a premium over the Hurricane so there extra $$ for the Hemi. What also going to skew this direct comparison is the fact the head of Ram has already stated the Hemi will be built in smaller numbers. The Hurricane will be option more people will probably opt for, due to lower cost and lack of the Hemi availability.

None of these trucks is an investment, and neither is the top of the line model. They will depreciate at pretty much the same rate, aside from people who prefer more power over older tech. Both will have buyers, but neither is any better off than the other. There really isn't any money in 'last of' configurations of a basic 5.7 motor with no special ability at all. In 5 years people will be comparing the power numbers and miles. Nothing more.

The last 2 vehicles i sold were my truck and the wifes 1320,and i made money on both.I bought the truck brand new for $28,000 in the spring of 15,and sold it for $36,000,and the 1320 we bought new in the spring of 20 for $50,000 and sold it for $64,000.You buy the right vehicles and you can make money on them.

With the issues with the SMALL 3.L 6 engine until it has a proven longevity it's a gamble I won't risk.

If choosing today, go with the Hemi (known reputation). In five years, reassess based on Hurricane performance.

It may not be engine related at all. From year-to-year trim line standard equipment can vary and may account for any differences. For example, the standard equipment on my 2019 Laramie included the TFT instrument cluster, sliding rear window, and rain sensitive wipers. When I last compared to a new Laramie they were not standard, but part of a package.

From a 24 Laramie to a 25 Laramie I see little changed on trim. The motor and 1 model year are the clear differences. Ask any Ram salesman, and he'll tell you the sales numbers crashed in 25 due to the Hurricane.

The 24 Laramie Hemi vs. the 25 Laramie SO seems like the closest comparison right now. About 6 months after the 26's come out with the hemi, then we'll see a side by side comparison in kbb, revealing how used buyers value the same trucks with these different motors.

Where it really matters will be in the maintenance and reliability of each, and that rolls right into trade-in value. For guys who trade often, it matters.

I would still pick my SST HO everyday of the week and twice on Sunday over the Hemi.

Please add a pic of your gauge cluster. Ram didn't offer TFT gauge clusters for 2019 models. It wasn't offered until several model years later.

In the 2019 Ram sales brochure, this was listed as a TFT cluster.

IMHO, the hurricane is going to be around but WILL never hold value like the hemi, regardless of the hemi's inherent problems.

The penstar is popular because it is used across platforms.

The hurricane has basically 2 platforms now and one is not selling well (Ram).

The news about the re release of the hemi, orders for new hemis achieved over 10k on the first day you could order one.

I suspect, you may see the hurricane stick around but I don't see it being anything but an engine someone will buy if they don't care or don't know about the hemi.

Yeah that’s the gauge cluster I thought you had. Thanks for the pic. The gauge cluster you have is the one you would get in the 2025 Laramie unless you get the Level 2 Equipment Group. The TFT cluster is the upgraded 12 inch cluster that comes with Level 2.

But I don’t disagree with you that some of the features that used to be standard on a given trim level are now cost adders.
