anybody with headers and the hemi tick experience the truck sounding like it has an exhaust leak or is it just valve trane noise it only happens when the motor is kinda in a strain . I've pulled my headers 4 times and air tested the best I could under water and no leaks but I'm not sure how much pressure is needed to simulate the Same pressure that the motor puts out surely 80 pounds should be enough. just wondering if its lifters I'm hearing or a leak you would think you wouldn't hear the lifters anymore after your at 1000 rpms or more. or does those stupid fake cats in the y-pipe cause a tick ?

I know with my 2006, when I threw on my longtubes, the lifter tick got louder and stayed that way from that point on. When I tried to sell the truck it was a problem because people thought it either had an exhaust leak (which it didn't) or the motor was ticking which sounded bad. It was not very loud but noticeable enough. Trying to explain to people about the Hemi Tick is very difficult because every guy out there thinks they are a mechanic/engineer...

Wait till you pull up in a
Fast food drive through and hear the noise bouncing off the brick! That's when it drove me nuts!

Completely normal for the valvetrain to be louder with headers. I solved my noise by switching to Redline 5w30 and haven't looked back since.

The only down side to running 0w40 is the MDS system won't behave the same since it's run off of oil viscosity but it can be a small price to pay for having a quieter exhaust. Another solution would be to wrap the headers which keeps the heat in the tubes better and reduces noise transfer.

I know what it is at idle so it doesnt bother me as much and its not that bad but when I'm running in 8th gear at 45 or 50 and give it some gas (not enough for it to downshift) its ticking like an exhaust leak but not at any other time does it do this.

I had the same issue on my 2004. Had to put in on a 2 post lift with the engine running to find an exhaust leak. Turned out to be the header gasket donut between the collector and the y pipe.

Normal... You get used to it as soon as you realize nothing is wrong.

I used heat wrap on my long tubes, seemed to quiet things up quite a bit. Headers are much thinner than the oem manifolds, hence the noise you hear now.

I haven't gotten used to mine and I've had my headers for quite a long time. Annoys the crap out of me whenever I'm pulling up next to a building. But it's just part of the process when you want performance. Thought about wrapping them. Still might do that.

Try wrapping them , worked for me and keeps the heat in to boot!
