vent hose?

I have a 2012 2500 4wd Diesel there is a hose approx 18 inches long that comes off of the rear axle about halfway between the differential and the hub.

It has a white plastic piece in the end of the hose, my hose came loose and drug the road and the plastic piece is now gone.

What is the white plastic part and how do I get another to repair this? I think that this is some kind of vent coming off the rear end, but I don't really know.

I went to a local parts house and they didn't have any idea what I needed or what was talking about.

It's just a water cap on the axle vent line and isn't absolutely vital as long as the hose is strapped back into place and you don't go fording a river.

will a water cap from any other years work? I would like to replace it, as it is on my work truck and I would like to get to put back together.

Any year, make, model, brand, as long as it fits into the hose.
