Yes, but it sucks. The gas tank is perfectly in the way for half the length of the seal....

I just keep fluid film on it at this point. This is something you would have to take care the day you get the truck imo.

I have 3000 miles on my 16 and sure enough I looked today and I am rubbing almost through the paint and did in a few areas so I just removed the trim and and touched up all the damaged paint and cut the piece so it is very close to the cab and not touching anymore and that should fix it .. Damn Chrysler it is always something with this truck but I still love the Ram but for the money these things cost it is a shame of the quality anymore.

lol....wicked stupid, right? A high school engineer could see the future of that set up. I just keep fluid film on it to help prevent major rusting issues. All they need to do was add a clear protective tape/film where the weatherstrip and cab meet.

I'm going to check mine this weekend after going through a winter with fluid film applied between the weather strip and the cab. If it looks unchanged from when I applied it I'll just keep doing that. If it's worse it looks like I'm unbolting my bed and sanding/painting the cab. Then I'll cut the weatherstripping so it won't touch the cab.

Theres no need for this to even be a problem if the engineers had a little common sense.

Checked mine this weekend. The fluid film was still there although most of it had washed away. The rust spot was about the same so I just sprayed some more fluid film between the weatherstripp and the cab. Seems to be working pretty well although it needs to be reapplied every 6 months or so if your truck is outside a lot...

What is the purpose of the side seals or weatherstripping behind the rear doors / cab that run vertical up the sides of the bed

I was detailing my truck today and noticed one was missing on the drivers side bed

Cost ?

Has anyone tried to get this issued repaired and repainted on a newer truck under warranty?

Had mine repaired last year and I removed the seal a bit after they repaired it. While under the truck a couple of weeks ago I looked and I had a giant line of rust where the seal was so I called the dealership body shop and they told me to pass by so they can look at it. They took pictures and a week later I got a call asking to bring it in to have it fix.

I dropped the truck this morning and they told me it would be ready at the end of today (like last year) I wasn't trilled because I was afraid that the job would be done like last year and that it would rust again. Got I call in the afternoon from the body shop manager and by the tone of his voice I knew something was up, he finally tell me that the truck will not be ready today because they underestimate the work and will have to remove the bed. I told him that wasn't a problem and was more of a good news lol

I should have the truck back Friday

I'd bet they are all to cut down on road noise and for aerodynamics.

I removed mine and junk started to get in by the vents, when it's fixed I'll reinstall it and use self adhesive ptfe tape on the cab to prevent the issue from coming back.

I've been spraying Fluid Film down there where it rubs up against the cab and so far that's working well. I already had a nice rust line where it had rubbed through the paint. I use a long straw on an spray can of FF taped to a metal rod to spray it right where it meets the cab. I do it every spring and fall. Literally takes 5 mins.

I have the same question. My passenger side is missing. Can't find them on any parts diagrams.
