So I've been having issues with the 6spd in my '14 1500. It use to be a once in awhile occurrence where after driving for a short period, but has become more frequent. As I'm shifting into reverse, the transmission wont fully engage and float between neutral and reverse. I was under the impression that the trans was either low on fluid or it was time for a new fluid since the truck drives a little sluggish as well. So I brought it to my local dealership and had them look at it. 400 bucks later they did a relearn on the tcm, drove it home and it still does the same thing. Has anyone dealt with this or heard of the 6spds having these issues? Any info appreciated.

Sounds like a cross leak issue which is known for a rfe, sounds like a Valve Body issue. There is a reason why they call them stealerships, that was a bad plan thinking a relearn was the issue imo. Plus they didn't even do the fluid? A lot to unpack with that post.

You do the relearn after you put the new valve body in if it needs it.

same issues with all rfe's, give this a watch...

Kind of my thought on that as well. I didn't even suggest that. I would've been more satisfied with the flush and new filter. Probably their plan all along, bring me in do the wrong thing and have me come back for more. The dealership way..... At this point I regret even saying anything about it and should've just lived with it and waited till the trans went.

nah, fight it man, go back cause a stink, it was their call not yours.

I would somehow try and get them to agree to do another relearn, then you put a VB in, it is as easy as turning some t25's. If you are interested, I'd tell you more. Watch that video when you have time, it's all there.

Oh I'm the quiet type believe it or not, I asked once when a dealership wouldnt fix my truck under warranty, went out hired a lawyer, won 13 grand. Your situation is different it would be a small claims case and instant win for you, but that dealership charging you that money and thinking a relearn was the issue is just like the title says a waste.

trust me when I say small claims is therapeutic in cases like this, now that I remember I won 3k in a case of damage against a shop, but the 13k trumps that, but it feels good to get justice against this broken thing.

What shifter do you have, I had an ‘11 with the console shifter that would do something similar. Putting it in park then back to reverse worked, so I just got in the habit of doing that every time instead of going right from drive to reverse.

different transmission? Console shifter on an 11? Maybe I'm brain fart, I thought those don't exist.

Like everything, there appears to be a wide range of preferred fluid change intervals from 60K to 120K miles, some choose much less mileage.

I plan to change my tranny fluid long before that time, YMMV.

.
I bought the truck with 38k on it and it ran good then. Right around 60k is when i started noticing the response wasn't as prominent. I don't beat on it, but i like to goof off once in awhile with it. I do have the jms pedal max, but have that set very low. maybe its contributed to the trans issue, idk. I have to bring it Wednesday anyway to have the truck rescanned for inspection since the tech did the relearn before doing the inspection.

Mine is column shift. It was also the mid year shift to the 8spd and turn dial setup as well. not the first time i've bough a vehicle and ended up with the least wanted transmission. Had a '10 300 S. Loved the car, but had the wonky 4spd in it instead of the 5spd that the later 300s had.

I'm not sold the 8 speed is better, but if you always have someone else do the work it probably is. The rfe is very easy to work on, and the 6 speed is night and day better then 5 speed even almost identical, that extra gear was a boom for mileage. If you have factory 3.92's imo one of the best combos available, those gears plus your transmission. But, there are weaknesses in those that need to be addressed, once addressed they are pretty decent option. It's all in that video, get the cross leaks out maybe do solenoid at same time, enjoy the truck again. peace
