I want to mount a small light bar bracket to the inside of my windshield. Hopefully this is a temporary situation, but it could easily be months before I finally install auxiliary switches, relay, and buy and mount new light fixtures.

The light I have now is only suited for inside the vehicle - it's not water tight at all - the on/off switch is right on the light bar itself, so I need to be able to reach the light from the driver's seat. The light is about 16" long, 1-1/2" tall, and has a small mounting bracket on each end. Since I don't want to drill holes in my dash to mount the bracket, I'm thinking about just gluing the end brackets onto the inside of the windshield. The idea being that the adhesive would holed the light in place until I install a permanent lighting solution.

I'm thinking about RTV black silicone adhesive - like a gasket maker. Or, perhaps windshield sealant would work well. I want it to be strong, but something I could scrape cleanly off with a razor blade.

Anyone have any recommendations, suggestions, or warnings?

FWIW, If U have never driven down a road with "lights" in the windshield, either on, flashing etc., I would not recommend it. Real hard to see the roadway with reflections and all. As far as lights mounted and shining outside in a windshield, I do not know ne thing about yer state statutes. All above IMHO...

THREAD: 3M double sided. But use sparingly, Same type used to mount stuff on vehicle. Use fishline to separate lights when done and a heat gun to remove 3M off window. But I have never tried to remove 3M from a window/windshield, so proceed at your own risk.

There is rearview mirror adhesive or as mentioned 3M make a VHB double sided tape. Either way you'll want to make sure the glass free from all grease, dirt, etc. Use pure isopropyl alcohol to clean.

The 3M double sided tape is not a bad idea. I tried double sided tape once before but it didn't hold up in the heat. The kind of tape used to hold on trim and emblems might do the job, though. It is much stronger and thicker than the stuff I tried before And, I know I can get it off when needed.

I'm not a big fan of having lights inside the windshield either. You do get a fair amount of reflection back in your eyes. But, in my experience, it is workable although not ideal. I definitely want to get some lights outside the cab eventually. But, that is a project that is going to take me more time.

Thanks for the good idea.
