Been a hard winter as usual.

So, last weekend, I managed to totally bury the plow truck (Ford F350) after waiting entirely too long to make the pass. We're talking nosed into the ditch kinda stuck. 4-high, 4-low, it wasn't going nowhere!

So, we bring down mine with a tow strap and ended up snapping the sucker like a twig after one yank. Pops goes and buys this real friggin' heavy chain and we try with that. Multiple yanks does absolutely nothing, the last of which I gunned it so hard that the sudden stop launched me into the damned steering wheel while all four wheels spun a one-inch trench into the hard pack, which resulted in me almost getting stuck right there on the flat with the chain at full tension. ****ing A.

Later, a friend comes in with his diesel F250 and proceeds to yank it out like it was nothing. I was literally numb. I mean, granted, that thing was at least two classes up from my Ram, but ****, I don't think I've ever been one-upped so bad in my life. I still feel humbled, both for myself and for my truck.

Oh, and the cherry on top? The power steering pressure hose sprung a leak, so I gotta replace that at some point this weekend.

Parked it and pulled the battery before leaving for my deployment. Upon returning, reinstalled the battery and proceeded to be reminded how bad the alignment is lol. 45 degrees to the right to go straight. Also there's now a huge crack all the way across the windshield so bad I'm amazed it isn't leaking. But for now I'm ignoring it. Ordered a TCP electric fan kit while i was gone. Full fabricated aluminum shroud and 16" Spal fans with an adjustable Davies Craig controller. Even has a digital display which is cool. Ripped out the FF Dynamics kit, it worked perfectly fine but it's a far cry from a clean install like the TCP. Very happy with the TCP kit but for what I paid I'd hope so.

Also, ripped out the TCI shifter I installed a few years ago. It was fun and a bit of a novelty but for day to day driving it was an annoying pain in the ass. But, WOT was really fun slamming gears. A lot of this was all in preparation to get the new block swapped. Weather has been garbage, -20s and yesterday 9.5" of snow.

Lastly I finally reinstalled my hitch. Pulled it out about 8 months ago to replace the bolts and bend one of the chain hookups back into shape and never got around to putting it on. Some grade8 hardware and anti-seize and it's solid but removeable, won't have to cut bolts if I ever need to pull it again.

Had Blue running a month ago when she just shut off. No stumble or nothing. After e few weeks of bad weather and life finally changed the coil and boom! Fired right up. First time ever had a coil just let go so scratch that off the broken parts list.

Thank you guys for the encouraging words!!! It’s so easy for people to say “why don’t you just get a new truck?” Well... short of $40,000 why [emoji16] is I love my gen 2 and I think it has many more miles in it!
Really appreciate the positive comments!

Rebuilt transmission not working very smooth. I picked it up Friday.
Called shop this morning, he said he’d like me to drive it some more so things can settle in. He said if I wasn’t happy after some more driving that I can bring it in.
Drove it to work this morning- just don’t think it’s shifting at the right time. So I’m driving it a few more days to see how it goes.
Troubling is that it seems to hold onto 2nd gear too long-and that was the failure mode of the original-wouldn’t shift out of 2nd gear.
Also two new codes popped up this weekend.
The joys of an old truck![emoji16]

Transmission update. Truck not running well at all. Got the two codes but they are a minor distraction at this point.
Last night on freeway, 65mph, truck downshifts. Zoom zoom!
So next morning I get under the truck , thinking something is wrong...
Note bare wires going into transmission shaft speed sensor. I had spread them apart in this pic.

This is my temp fix. Really steaming mad at the shop right now... Taped it and wrapped with connection in stiff foam.

At first I thought they hadn’t even disconnected it but it looks like I could be wrong about that..

Backed it into my garage angled and pulled the engine over the weekend. Yesterday I attacked the chassis with SuperClean and PurplePower with a decently stiff brush. Cleaned up as much as I can, hit what rust i can with a wire brush and used a rust coverter on it all. Will be giving it a rinse tonight or tomorrow and then painting it. After that, clean up wiring, paint the intake manifold and drop in the new engine. Waiting on HPTuners from FRP but I have enough to keep me busy until it arrives.
