Looking to purchase a new RAM 4500 or 5500 to tow a 20K-ish 5th wheel RV.

Would like to get a four door with the Longhorn package but can't seem to be able to build that version on the RAM website.

More importantly, I'd like to get the conversion that removes the box and replaces it with what looks much like a CDL hitch with the low profile tool boxes.

What do you call this conversion / configuration? And is it available through RAM or is this an aftermarket conversion?

Here's a link to a picture of what I'd like the conversion to be: http://imageshack.us/a/img685/1381/dodgeramwithclassyalumi.jpg

what u get from ram is the whole truck minus the bed " Chassis" then u take it to a shop and get a " flat bed" put on. it's quite simple. How ever depending on ur state it makes insurance a night mare- depending on how they classify the truck. definetly look into it before u buy.

Your looking for a chassis cab and a shop needs to install the bed. How far south texas are you? I know a guy from my racing days that works at a shop in the springtown poolville area that does conversions like that they do anything from 1/2 tons up to semi's. Have you looked at 3500's it'll save you some coin I know if they are properly equipped with the asian you should be clear to tow 20k maybe not you may just look into it, I know of the 5500 you can get the max towing package with 4.88 gears.

As stated, you want a cab & chassis. It is not a pickup with the bed removed. They have straight frame rails set at a standard width, and other features to provide for easier "upfitting". If a dealer sells a lot of C & C he will no doubt have connections with various body builders and upfitters.
