What does Jasper recommend ?

I use pup 5-20 and a fram ultra filter. Engine runs smooth and quite. I also do 6 month or 6000 miles oci .
I have also always used the pup 5-20 synthetic and usually a mobil-1 synthetic filter. 8yrs and no issues at all but i should add that I dont tow anything- only haul firewood in the box now and then. Thinking of going to a 30 weight for summer and back to 20 for the **** cold up here in winter. It runs super smooth and winter starts are no problem even without the block heater.

Yeah my instructions state use of 5W-20.
However it doesn't say anything about full synthetic or blend but I'm going to go full synthetic for sure. now I did turn off MDS you think I could go with something little heavier, because I turned it off?

I think I will stay with the pup year round 5w-20. Why mess with something that is working great with my Ram.

I'm on my 3'rd 5.7 Hemi since 2013 (all bought new) and have used 5W20 Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended Performance oil and filter ... Never had a problem ... If the Mobil 1 is sold out I will use Castrol Edge Extended Performance , and again no issues ...

Manu's make 0w30 out of incredible base stocks, if you watch the specs and see when an oil has all the desirable specs the base oils are better than average. 0w30 would give you both extra flow in winter and more film strength in summer, best of both worlds. Then you don't have to switch weights back and forth.

My idle is, according to the dash, is 700 rpm at idle when warmed up. I believe FCA did this to as a “fix” for the lifter camshaft issue. Time will tell. That’s why I stick with 5/20.

QSUD 5W-20 and Purolator filter. I tried several other combos including Valvoline, Royal Purple, Pennzoil. I've stuck with this combo because it keeps my engine the quietest and I felt somewhat of a lag with a couple of the other oils.

I agree about the QSUD. I have a 2004 Ram 5.7 with around 99,000 miles. I use the 5w30 weight. I bought the truck new and have used the same oil and no hemi tick. Runs great. I use NAPA Platinum filters.

This thread has exploded into a plethora of valuable information! I haven't even read it all yet cuz it's so much information.
but I'm going to tell you guys what I just ordered and what I'm starting with and I'll work up from there.
Redline 5W-20 and a royal purple filter

let me know if you think this is a good start guys.
I'm thinking the next time I might go 5W-30 Redline but I'll keep reading this thread and see if that changes lol

All right ladies and gentlemen, as some of you may know, (if you follow my YouTube channel) I had the dreadful hemi tick about 3 months ago. Since I had 103,000 mi on the engine, I decided to replace it with a Jasper rebuilt engine. So far so good. It's been a good decision for me.
I want zero issues with this engine and a good start would be putting the right oil and filter on it.
I have done some research on this and I'm leaning towards Redline full synthetic and a WIX filter.
So now that it's time for my first oil change, I'm asking you guys what you're running in your HEMI and why it's the best choice for you.
I appreciate any and all feedback I get.
Thank you
Adam

Bid daddy, it would be worth your while to read the synthetic oil thread. You will be more convinced that 5-30 red line is the way to go.
Thanks for the tip. I honestly didn't even know there was a synthetic thread.
I'll take a look at it.
Thanks brother

I tried 5W-30 PUP and RP 10-48, then switched to 5W-30 Redline with 10-48, motor sounded the same. I read about 5W-30 QSUD Synthetic (Quaker State Ultimate Durability) and read about the BOSS filter and decided to give it a try, my engine runs super smooth and it’s available at my local advance auto parts so I dont need to order anything.

I have a Blackstone on the PUP and RL, next oil change I’ll do one on the QSUD for comparison.

I've moved to PP 10w30 because the people on BITOG say it has a lower NOACK than 5w30
