Alright, I have read thru some articles that explain what these terms mean, but for some reason it's just not clicking in my head.

My current wheels are the Boss 335 22s which are 22x9 with a +20mm offset and 5.75 backspacing. My tires are 305/40/22s.

The wheels are sticking out a little past the fender. Every big dip or bump in the road, I am rubbing both the actual fender lip AND inner fender well.

Can someone please explain what backspacing I need to shoot for and/or offset? I am totally confused on this. If new rims are what is going to fix it, I want to stay with a 22, so what size tire is needed?

Any input is greatly appreciated :D

A friend has told me that he had the same wheels and I just need skinnier tires. I found some 265/35/22 on craigslist, would that work? Anyone here have that size?

You almost have a 32x12 tire on there, actually comes out to a 31.6x12, you really can't go with much more of a backspace if that wheel is 5.75 your pretty much at the limit for clearance.
Your offset goes like this: A positive offset takes the wheel closer to the truck, the closer you get to 0 (zero) and minus offsets take the wheel away from the truck.

It looks like you have a drop set up on your truck, I would say your option would be to see if they have a tire that is not as wide as what your running. A 35 series might work because your tire will be a little smaller height wise by about 1" but, the 305's will still be 12" wide.

Maybe you could try a 295 or 275 series tire if you want to stay with the 40.

Alright, thank you... I was thinking about a 275/45/22, it's almost the same dimensions as mine, but instead of 12" wide, it's 10.83" wide. Do you think that would bring the tire up inside the fender lip?

Yes the smaller tire should fit into the wheel well much better. Most tire shops can do a fitment for you to make sure but, that should work.

I agree with Harold....you def. want a tire that is not as wide, but I saw you say on facebook you don't want rubber bands.....since you don't have more of a drop IMO get a tire that is as close to the same overall diameter, but less width like what you have listed.
