When can we see these in the HD trucks?

Ricardo Information Services - New Engine News – August 2014

Manufacturer: CHRYSLER
Period Covered: August 2014

6.2-Litre Supercharged Hemi The Dodge Challenger SRT has a new version of the Hemi V8
engine with a revised displacement of 6.2-litres, with supercharging.
Exact power and torque figures have yet to be released, but power
is listed as in excess of 447kW - the highest power of any Chrysler
V8 engine.

The engine retains the 103.9mm bore of the 6.4-litre Hemi (see
March 2014 issue), but has a reduced stroke, from 94.6mm to
90.9mm. Around 91% of the components are new compared with
the 6.4-litre model.

The engine has a cast-iron block and a forged steel crankshaft with
induction-hardened bearing surfaces. The crankshaft is fitted with a
damper, and the nose drives a gerotor oil pump which feeds an oil
circuit that includes eight piston cooling jets. The pistons are made
from a forged alloy, and have powder forged connecting rods with
high-load capacity bushings and diamond-like-carbon coated
gudgeon pins.

The cylinder heads are made from heat-treated aluminium alloy,
optimised for thermal conductivity. The rocker covers are die-cast
aluminium. Exhaust valves are sodium-cooled, with hollow stems
and steel heads.

The Lysholm-type supercharger is supplied by IHI, has a capacity of
2380cc and has an integral charge air cooler, and bypass valve to
limit boost pressure. The twin rotors have a coating to allow tighter
clearances, and the unit operates at a maximum speed of
14600rev/min.

Specification - 6.2-Litre Hemi (Hellcat)
Configuration: V8 (90˚), gasoline, turbo-intercooled
Valves: 2 valves/cylinder, OHV
Displacement: 6.2-litre (6166cc)
Bore x Stroke: 103.9mm x 90.9mm
Power: 447kW
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
