I don't know if I'm posting this in the right spot. I'm new to the whole posting threads thing. Anyways. I get this high pitch whining coming from somewhere in the engine, but it's hard to pin point. It sounds like a bad belt, but it's possibly a pulley. After looking at the belt, I noticed that one side of it is going bald. I checked all the pulley's but couldn't find any sharp edges that would cause it. I'm going to try to replace the belt to see if that's what's making the noise, but it's going to only be a temporary fix. Hopefully somebody on here has had this problem and can help me fix it.

I have read somewhere that I can check the pulley's by loosening the tension-er, but I'm not the best mechanic alive. I'm sure it's easy, but I don't have the work space (I live in apartments).

Thanks all!
Brian

Welcome to the forum. :)

I had a whining noise on my truck and it ended up being the serpentine belt. It would get higher and louder if the truck was revved. Once that was replaced, I didn't have any other issues. Hope this helps.

I will just have to replace the belt and if that one wears down really fast, then I'll look into the pulley's. Thanks!

While the belt is off spin the pullies. Also before the belt is removed make a sketch of the belt routing to help you out putting it back on. Good luck bud and welcome to the forum.

I used to have a constant whine coming from the passenger side of my truck. But I got divorced and it fixed it - permanently! LOL.

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I had the same problem, replaced the 2 idler pulleys and the tensioner and all was good.
