Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm a noob. I'm still getting a feel for the truck, only have about 500 miles on it. This may be perfectly normal, but I couldn't find anything on this noise in my search.
At idle, the engine noise sounds great, but when accelerating there is this annoying loud "whoosh" sound like a loud fan or sucking of large volume of air. The sound stops when I let off the accelerator. Driving down the road at strong acceleration, it's so much so, that I can't even hear the exhaust!
5.7 L Hemi

Thanks

It's not a stupid question, however I have a stupid answer. It's probably the sound of you passing the Ford next to you at such a high rate of speed you get that whooshing sound. :naughty::naughty: Sorry I can't help???

You have a 2016 with the 5.7, right? You don't notice any sound on acceleration? Other than normal engine rev and exhaust note?

No, but my exhaust is probably loud enough to drown out any other sound. I also have a Vararam CAI so that makes some noise also.

If it's the 5.7l it probably has a mechanical fan. I know my 2010 does and if I don't drive it for a while the fan seems to stay on for a bit but after driving goes away untill needed. Maybe your fan is acting up.

It sounds like your air filter housing isn't closed properly. Open it and reseat the cover.

Clutch fan....
Yep, dealer confirmed. Should be in within a couple days. I hadn't had a truck before, so I thought it was normal until I started noticing other Ram's on the road and couldn't hear them like a jet liner driving by.

Update: Dealer replaced the fan clutch and it sounds like a completely different engine! I can actually rev to my hearts content and hear the exhaust instead of that "woosh" of the mechanical fan! Thanks :happy107::rockit:

There's also an even better fix... get rid of the mechanical fan and do an electric fan swap from a 2011 or so V6 Ram. That's what I did. Less parasitic drag on the engine (so frees up hp), and I don't have to listen to that fan... ever.

Edit: In case you're wondering, no, I've never come close to overheating, even sitting dead stop in 94 degree Lake Charles, LA traffic.

I've read about doing that and plan to do that mod when I'm no longer under the watchful eyes of warranty.
