I've been weighing on buying running boards for the truck. The thing is why buy them? My truck is actually a little high to get in but isn't that the point of having a truck to have that clearance. I don't want to lower it 5" just because it's a little too high. that was the whole point of getting a truck and like the feeling of actually getting in. I'm just wondering if the wear on the seat sliding out. Why did you get them?

I have them so my wife and daughter can get into the truck easier. If I didn't have them I'd need to lift my daughter in every time and that would get old fast.
The steps aren't the lowest point on the truck so it never really bothered me.

Because they don’t give them away ... It’s personal preference ... If you want them, you get them ... If you don’t, don’t ... Your reasoning is why some spend the money and get the Amp auto steps ... 6” lift, and 37’s, and you’re gonna want steps ... If stock, and you’re 5’9” you might want them ... 6’4” then probably not ... Again, it’s up to you ...

I've never had running boards till I got my Ram and I really like them.My 77 Chevy 4wd is a little high and no running boards and that new seat I put in started wearing pretty fast on the side. But I cannot stand the look of what my buddy calls "sidewalks" on my Chevy. So I just deal with the wear.A step might be alright tho.

Same here - for the wife, but I put on the AMP powersteps, they actually come down lower and out further than a regular step, easier for her to find the step when she gets out, and when they're folded up, no ground clearance issues at all

Forgot about that, mine have saved me a few door dings.
Also keeps a lot of slush and ice off the doors in winter.
Hmmm, never thought about that and really makes a lot of sense. I was more worried about the wear on the seats. Also for sure its a personal preference, no right or wrong answer and deff with some of the ways guys have their truck set up it adds to the look especially if you have a lift.

For my 5 foot nothing wife to gain access to the cab.

She gets angry if she can't climb up into the truck and I drive off, leaving her behind. :D She even told me when I got the CTD to put some on and she picked them out.

Side steps, running boards, mobile sidewalks whatever you want to call them are a necessity to some and a personal preference to others. I put them on my “03” when it was new. Would never be without them again. Saves the seat, door dings, rock chips on the lower portions of the doors. I happen to like the appearance of them but that’s also subject to truck color and other trim i.e. chrome, color matched or blacked out.

Its your truck and your money. Do what you want to do. Not what others think you should do.

Looks like we all got them for the Same reason so your spouse and kids can get into the truck also it added a little something to the look I just wish they could used as anti door ding device

Ditto on everything said so far (except for the family - I'm the shortest at 6' 0"... kids are north of 6'3" now, and even my wife is 6'2". Now the dog, on the other hand, he really appreciates 'em...)

I do know that they've saved me a ding or two for those times when I get stupid and get onto something a bit too narrow for the truck, or most often I'll promptly find a big branch (or if you prefer, a small log) loafing around waiting for someone's rocker panel to destroy... the nerf bars do a great job of keeping that kind of pain at bay.

I had them on my 2017 when I bought it new but took them off after the first year. The truck looks cleaner without them to me and they were a pain to clean and wash the bottom of the truck. Still have them buried in the shed but don't think I will ever put them back on.

Running boards was the very first accessory I bought for my Ram, I wouldn't have a truck without them for several reasons. It makes getting in and out of the truck easier which as we get older Arnie's appreciate it helped save wear and tear on the edge of the seat it also helps my passengers that are little short of money in hey save my rocker panels already a few times this winter from the slash at the end of my driveway from the snow plow and as mentioned above door dings. As far as losing ground clearance if you look under a vehicle I haven't seen a set of running boards yet to actually hang lower than the frame rails I know mine currently are probably two inches higher than the actual bottom of the frame rail so it makes it easier to get in the truck but it does not lower than the frame rail so I lost zero ground clearance.

When I first got the truck....my wife had difficulty getting in....then I unlocked and opened the door....she still struggled so I installed running boards. She seems a little happier but that won't last long. Hope she never wants to drive my RAM!

Always resisted the Wife's pleas to get running boards back when I had my F250, but my Ram already had the AMP PowerSteps installed when I bought and now I do not think I will ever go back. I have been extremely impressed with the Amp PowerSteps quality and durability - well worth the investment IMO.

As many have already said---if you have a "short" or vertically challenged wife sometimes there is little to no discussion about whether to get steps or not. As I remember the conversation it went something like, "Don't even think about bringing that damn truck home without steps on it". Happy wife, happy life!
