Damn thats just sad, man. I love my '12 edition because the newer one have the large touch screens in the middle that is tied into so many other things.

Just keeping it simple on the 2012...radio only controls the radio and nothing else.

Might have to step up to a 2014 2500 with the 6.4.....

I like that you've got your head on clearly now.
I was tempted by some of the specs on the 2014s, but was wary of the new HVAC setup on them. I like dials and knobs, not computers and gizmos.

BTW, my neighbor is a mechanic at a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer. These issues aren't just exclusive to the Ram's, the Dart's are having the same problems.

Wifey has the Ford Sync system in her Edge. Been back to the dealer 3 times for the same type situation( black screen, no controls:hvac, radio, rear camera)
It's technology! You are gonna have some problems no matter what the brand, but it sounds as though the Uconnect was a little rushed.

If you remember, when BMW brought out iDrive, it was hated as well... It's gotten better and better...

I like the ease of use of the uConnect, but reliability is key.

It's been out long enough for them to fix the issues. Problem being, there are other issues more important and IMO car manufacturers haven't fully embraced tech by hiring geeks. They need geeks like Apple and Google have and they need to let them work on it. Get them some hot pockets, a few bags of Cheetos and let them go!

I just got back from a service appointment at my dealer. They "installed 2 new updates" on my uConnect, and then on my drive home it randomly switched itself from XM to AM...I'm hoping they get all this crap straightened out soon :emotions122:

The problems have been in the 2014 Grand Cherokee's since they came out too. My wife has had nothing but problems with her 5" radio.

It likely would make no difference how many Geeks were hired from whom to deal with the various issues everyone is seeing. There are several problems involved. First is the fact Geeks typically don't speak Motorhead and Motorheads don't speak Geek. Thus what we have is "a failure to effectively communicate!" Second, is the problem of the electronic components being used not necessarily being temperature rated for the type of environment subjected to in an automobile. Thirdly, add to that problem the lack of adequate quality control to determine if their Chinese friends are cutting corners and using other than components specified by design engineers who understand the nature of the environment. It's probably nothing short of a miracle that any vehicle made since the early/mid 1980s actually runs most of the time.

If they had the geeks they could work through these issues! Hell, we put a rover on Mars for christ sakes and it actually WORKS! It's doable! The problem is the engineers need to allow the geeks some room to move.

Somehow Android and iOS devices can handle temps, punishment, and still work. I'm not asking for much, but it WOULD be nice if at least the uConnect app worked as advertised. Hell, they just updated it and it still doesn't work.

Update today... My lemon Law lawsuit was sent to chrysler last tuesday. I get a call today from the new car salesman at the dealer who had been working with Chrysler on this. They offered me a new truck equal in MSRP to what I have. It sounded great at first as they wanted to know what color I wanted and what not.

Then I got to thinking. If I take this deal I owe my lawyer $2400 out of my pocket. Why should I have to shell out that on top of what I already spent on the truck to get it fixed. They wouldn't give me a 2014 either.

I can take the buyback give the lawyer his cut and still go buy a Longhorn and be money ahead for what they sell for now since the 2014's came out.

Why in the world couldn't they throw this at me 2 weeks ago!! BEFORE I hired a lawyer...

Y'all are making me really glad I bought a 2012 with the 430N and didn't wait for a 2013.
If Dodge were smart they'd call a do over and if the Uconnect isn't perfect on the 2014s, go back to the 430--ya just don't need that big @$$ screen to listen to music.

yeah, but if the lockpick would ever come out and be reliable for that larger screen, it would be nice to watch movies while driving (for my back seat 6 yr old) since I couldn't order the laramie with Rear dvd anymore. :angry94:

That's why I bought an express without that fancy crap. Hell a portable DVD player only costs 50 bucks and hassles or wasted time at the dealership.

God, I wish my 430 had that 'N' on the end...
We have 2, 7"portable DVD players from Wally World, 1 for each kid so they can watch their own movies, AND they come in handy at hotels and in the trailer as DVD players.
There is too much technology intermingled on cars nowadays.

Yeah, I didn't get the 840AN but instead saved the 500 bucks and went with just the "A" unit. Granted I don't have many miles on my truck yet, but I've not had it do anything odd yet. (knocking on wood) I just BT my phone to the unit and it plays music and then mutes when the NAV talks. I can't see a reason to have the installed NAV on this.

I'm wondering if it's just the units with Nav installed on them or if others are seeing issues.

Same thing with my wifes Fusion, people with NAV are complaining and can't find a complaint from people without NAV.
