2013 Subwoofer and custom fiberglass box.

So I'm new here and haven't posted much. I have been out of the game for a while, but I still have a passion for an audio build every now and again. I've done a few small builds, but this might be the biggest (and hopefully best).

I mostly just sit quietly and read posts on forums, but hopefully I can remember to photograph this build as it progresses and contribute something to this fine forum.

Right now, I'm in the planning and parts ordering phase. My plan is to remove the factory subwoofer and enclosure so that I can add my own amp, subs, and custom fiberglass enclosure. I will be making a fiberglass enclosure to house two 10 inch subwoofers (Likely (2) DC Labs Level 3 subs). I haven't figured out where to put the amp or where it might fit, but I will be using a Crossfire XP1400D mono amp.

Ok so I started the wiring while I'm waiting for the fiberglass materials to arrive.

1. Start with attaching the power wire (1/0 gauge) to the positive on the battery.

1a. Modify the positive terminal cover.

2. Run the positive to the fuse distribution block. (250A ANL Fuse)

3. Run the power wire to desired location. In this case I ran the wire under the truck and anchored the wire to the frame.

4.Drilled a 3/4 inch hole in the sheet metal and fed the wire up to the rear driver side seat area.

Awaiting fiberglass work to finish anchoring and installing the wiring.

Next I removed the factory subwoofer and enclosure and prepared for Line Output Converter installation.

Factory Harness plug for subwoofer.

Installed wire taps.

This is the Line Output Converter (LOC) that I will be using.

I stopped short of hooking up the wires from the LOC to the factory wires because I haven't been able to identify which wire is which. When I find out, I'll post the identities.

It's been about 3-4 years since I messed with Fiberglass. The good part is that my new sub is still being built and then has to ship so I won't be in a rush (hopefully) to finish the enclosure for the sake of installing the sub.

Is there a grommet used where you passed the wire through the sheet metal? I can't see one. AAACK! :badidea:

No Grommet. I tried to use some basic sheet metal grommets, but the sheet metal in that spot is double layered. I used to have a grommet for 1/0 gauge wire that screwed together on both sides, but I can't find it. I'll need to order another one. Either that or form a silicone caulk surround. On that note, any suggestions for grommets. I'll probably order the same one I used to have, which I got from partsexpress.com

Just go to lowes and in the hardware section they have done good grommets. Why order one when you can get one in town? Waste of time IMO

Are the grommets there thick enough to surround the double thickness of sheet metal?

You'll have to look around, they come in many shapes and sizes. Either that or at autozone, pep boys, type stores; they have a bunch of little stuff like that

I checked Home Depot (not in depth), Autozone, and Harbor Frieght. I'll check Lowes and Home Depot again tomorrow. I think the standard side slotted width it 1/16" if so I need 1/8. If they're 1/8 standard, then I need 3/16 or 1/4. Not sure.

Ya. I got a grommet from auto zone to fit my IAT sensor and it fit in 1/4" PVC, so you could try there too. If all else fails try amazon, they have everything you could imagine at cheap prices and fast shipping.

nice but I would scrap the electrical tape and use some heavy heat shrink,+2 on rubber grommets in the steel holes the wire feeds through.

Ok. Got a grommet/bushing for the pos wire fed into rear seat area, heatshrinked the battery terminals, installed a 1/0 gauge battery neg to chassis ground.
