Checked the Ram's recall website and my truck is part of this recall.

This is the same recall in the papers a couple of weeks ago. FCA is just finally getting all their $xxt in one sock and issuing the letters.

It's interesting that if you go to the recall website (Safety Recall Information | MOPAR) and enter your vehicle VIN to look up the recall status, the recalls show they are from July 21, 2015. Why does it take FCA a month and a half to go public about these recalls?

Not sure what all is involved with this one, but I'd rather they wait till they are ready to actually perform the recall, than be like GM (for example) and recall a ton of vehicles and not have the parts/dealers ready for it! :)

Just went through this. Got a notice in the beginning of the year about the pinion nut recall, and the DAB. Said parts weren't available, we'll contact you when they are. Couple weeks ago my rear diff started making noise, finally went and put my VIN in, comes up "Parts Available". No notice in the mail. Took the truck in, pinion nut was loose and damaged a bunch of stuff, they totally rebuilt the diff and it's fine now. Probably could've saved them some money if they sent out the cards when they got the parts in the system.

Missed it by 1 year... Darn...

I think Fiat needs to find a new Airbag supplier.. seems that alot of the recalls have to do with airbag defects... not exactly Ram or Fiats fault but this is what you get when you take the lowest builder...

I hear you but it doesn't sound like a supplier thing. It sounds like an installation thing. I got this description (my truck is affected) when I checked out the site:

"Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

THE STEERING WHEEL WIRE HARNESS MAY BECOME CHAFFED BY THE DRIVER AIRBAG MODULE RETAINER SPRING ENDS. A CHAFFED STEERING WHEEL WIRE HARNESS COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND/OR AN INADVERTENT DRIVER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. INADVERTENT DRIVER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, DURING CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH AND/OR VEHICLE OCCUPANT INJURY.

Repair Description

THE STEERING WHEEL WIRE HARNESS WILL BE INSPECTED, AND IF NEEDED REPAIRED. THE STEERING WHEEL WIRE HARNESS WILL BE REROUTED AND SECURED TO PREVENT WIRE CHAFFING AND PROTECTIVE CAPS WILL BE INSTALLED ONTO THE AIRBAG RETAINER SPRING ENDS."

During what driving conditions would the "inadvertent airbag deployment" NOT increase the risk of a crash? I had one go off in a 15 mph slide into a soft snowbank, and it felt a lot like somebody had punched me hard in my whole face. Broke my glasses in half. If I hadn't slid into the snow, I certainly would have crashed. I used to have a deployed airbag hanging in the shop that had a perfect "kiss" lipstick print on it.

I guess us peons shouldn't try to understand legalese.

Just had my 2014 2500 in for service and it had 3 recalls due. the first I knew about a couple of months ago , TMPS wheel sensors replaced. The others, R23: Reprogram occupant restraint control module, R40 Radio security vulnerability, R36 Steering wheel wiring inspection (for chafing) Were all accomplished along with rotation tires and oil change in about 2 hours. Wonder if Takata makes the Ram airbags???

I've only had one airbag go off, my 09 tundra during an approx 50 mph (combined speed) head on. it was barely the size of a large throw pillow and I never made contact with it since the seat belt tensioner held me back. Out of curiosity, aren't air bags usually significantly larger?

hope not, I think the Takata recall was due to the inflating propellants malfunctioning and sending metal shards out with the air bag, taking out various parts of the drivers head and neck anatomy....

Well that makes sense, they have been plagued with recalls and they all seem minor things.. some major though

I don't think the air bag is the fault. Rather the wiring harness in the area of retaining springs. My understanding is only models with EVIC does this apply to.
Many auto companies used Takata air bags that are being / been recalled.

That's correct. Most folks don't realize the gas that rapidly inflates the air bag is created by an explosive detonation.

I don't know about current RAMs, but the 03's used to have an explosive detent on the shoulder restraints too. Same electric signal that fires the air bag fired an explosive clip that seized the restraint in position. That sat right next to your left shoulder in the B pillar; wouldn't want that throwing shrapnel either.

Heres the link to the actual repair procedure for the air bag wire harness chaffing recall--obviously not a Takata issue, just poor installation design causing wires to short and 'blow-up' d'bag.

Huh, the recall I just got said that the side airbag sensitivity was set too low in some vehicles. Nothing about the harness chaffing.
