Looking back, I'm going to have to fix the photos on this thread too. Stupid PB.

Nice build! Are you still running your PWR motor?

Yeah, still running it but I think it’s beginning to be the source of some of my problems. I have a slow loss of coolant right now so there may be a crack in the water jacket. It was originally bored over to run the larger piston so it might have cracked under the higher cylinder pressures. I’d have to pull the block and get it magnafluxed to be sure though.

Was curious because I've been running his forged 6.1 in my jeep since 2012. Sucks to hear about the coolant loss though

I bought the short block for $2500 shipped from one of their eBay auctions, it doesn’t owe me anything at this point. I’ll run it this year and start looking for a new block next winter. It might be time for more cubes and lower boost pressure anyways.

That was a hell of a deal! What size motor are you thinking?

No, 426 max, I’d keep it around 12psi at that size, still plenty of meat in the block with a 6.2L or 6.4L BGH block to handle boost.

426 will take 12psi pretty easy. Couple jeep guys are running 426 with a promod 88mm and are staying together

The truck is back from the exhaust shop. I can finally stop babying it around with earplugs in. I really need this winter crap to go away, I want to drive the truck again. In the couple of short trips I've had it on the trans has shifted flawlessly, the traction on the back end with NT420S tires and snow covered roads has been interesting but it's made it, I kind of miss the 4wd right about now though.

The exhaust is a 3" custom job with smooth mandrel bends, a 4" long flex joint right after the headers, a real x-pipe, the same dual 30" Magnaflow mufflers as before, and dumps before the axle. It's still loud even with the 30" mufflers.

I replaced my two different brand AFR gauges (Innovate LC-1, and AutoMeter) with a new single gauge dual AFR Innovate DLG-2. It's so nice having it all on one gauge now, plus it's a lot easier to tie it into the HPTuner since the scaling factor is the same for both gauges. This still leaves me with 2 open gauge ports holes which I really need to fill with more nitrous gauges, lol.

The big news is I'm picking up a 6.4L truck core from a local dealership on Friday. I've had a couple dealerships keep an eye out for a core for a 6.4L gas job to use as a base for a 426 stroker and I got the call today. I can't pass up $900cdn for a long block when a new block-only core charge was going to be $1000-$1400 from most engine builders, excluding heads. The core has a bottom end knock so I suspect a bad rod but I won't know until I pull it apart. New stroker rotating assembly, lifters, and probably a set of Thitek heads and she'll be ready to roll.

That sounds like a crazy good deal! Heads included? Good luck with the stroker, it sounds like it will be sick!

What's the largest size aluminum motor you would recommend for a dedicated forced induction build that would initially be run n/a? And what max boost pressure for said engine once boosted?

((just a hypothetical))

as the 6.4s to make their way in to the used market we'll see a lot more 426/431s if you keep the bore to 4.10 max, it'll hold 20PSI.
Winter is on it's way out, looking forward to seeing what next for your truck.

Yeah, it’s a long block so heads as well. Not sure if the cam or gallery plugs are still in it but they’ll get changed out anyways.

I wouldn’t go more than a 426 on boost with the aluminum block. There are car guys throwing 25psi at that size. Some have done a 440 with them on low boost but those blocks like to expand a lot when hot and piston rocking can be an issue.

I’m going to run the smallest diameter I can to keep the web as thick as possible, just gonna stroke it to 426, notch and chamfer the lower cylinder, o-ring the block, and get it line bored with a new cross hatch. I’m thinking gapless rings too.

Did the tear down on the new engine yesterday. I had my nephew come over since he was interested in seeing an engine's internals so it was interesting going through engine basics with him. The good news is, there's no major damage that I could find.

It turns out that the only damage that I could find was scoring on the #3 and #4. The cylinder walls were perfect and there was no indication of wear on the main caps. I might have struck gold with this block since the heads and cam were great as well so I can sell those and recoup the cost of the block purchase.

looks good, great bones to start with, Cool thing about the Nephew being curious. I know I'm happy every time I see my two nieces and their brother working on their rides.

Odd request for you, can you take a photo of the side of the block? water jacket to pan rail?.

I took another look at all the parts I pulled from the 6.4L block. I measured all journal and bearing diameters, rod length, pretty much everything I could think of, nothing was out of place. I then checked lifters, they were all good, but I realized my mistake. I only looked at one end of the pushrods as I’d stuck the other end into the sheet of cardboard.

I found the one legitimate issue with this engine: worn pushrod. This cost the previous owner a new long block, lol.

A bit off topic, so my apologies in advance:
charonblk07, I've got a D1-SC maxed out on a forged 6.4 in a Rebel, but I'm having trouble with tuning. I'm in Vancouver, so Calgary is within reach for me.
I'm using a Diablo PCM, and am interested in tranny tuning, too (which apparently Diablo can now do.)
Can you recommend a Calgary tuner?
Thanks! Eric
