Does the dust cover cause any heat issues with the led cooling fan?
Do hid ballasts heat up to the point they have to be out in the open and not covered by say the dust cover?
Now i gotta make a decision on which fogs! 35w or 50w and what brand! And hope they match my ddm 5500k hids

The cover fit over the Hikari's.. I think it just touches. The fan housing has a little bit of a dome to it and I blelieve it's just touching that center of the dome. I don't see it being an issue tho. I didn't realize your ddms were hid. I'd think as long as what you select is the same color range (5500) it should be damn close

There are quite a few LED’s that current forum members are running in the stock oem Ram projectors. I’m not too sure which brands as usually if I’m building lights for someone it’s either to swap out the oem projector for a better projector which would use hid bulbs or replacing the projector with an led projector that has the led diodes built into the projector unit.

So I’m not too familiar with what exact brand led kits fit into the oem projector headlights that still allow the dust so to be put back on. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure the Hikari Ultra’s fit underneath the dust cap, and as for that led kit, it’s pretty decent for the price.

I would search the forums for “oem projector led bulbs” or “projector led bulb” and so on, and see what others have tested out. Because a lot of the bulbs sold on eBay and Amazon won’t allow you to screw the dust cap back on because the heat sink fans are too big and hit the dust cap.

Like I said, it’s best to find some members currently running led kits in the oem projectors and find out which ones they have so you know they will fit.

Very good suggestions, I will certainly be doing some more digging on here before ordering. Great thing about forums like these, can trust people on here more than I can trust random amazon reviews etc..Sounds like the Hikari's do indeed fit within the unit, I'm feeling pretty good about giving those a shot but will do a little more homework first. If they look good for my gf's car as well, I'll probably go with those for both our highs and lows. Thanks again for all of your input!

I don't think they do necessarily as I believe factory hid's are most likely contained (just my guess due to how much longer they seem to last). However, the size of the ballast requires it to be mounted externally in this scenario. Also I'm not 100% sure one wattage to match your headlights, my last setup I ram 6000k for the hids at 35w and matched them with 6000k leds in the fog (not sure on wattage but got these from retro shop as well) and they matched up pretty good :

LED fogs and highs came today.. Sadly every led I try in the fog will not work. I've tried Firewire, Hikari and Nimeo and none will power on at all. Even tried flipping the plug over to switch polarity. Ideas anyone??

Try the fogs without starting the truck, just turn the ignition on. If they do light up then you either need a set of error cancellers or get AlfaOBD to change them to LED.

No, No and No. lol.

I’ve installed plenty of LED bulbs in my own personal headlights where the dust caps were literally smashed into the bulb, barely able to reseal. I’ve ran them for months and months like that and never once had a led bulb burn out.

No hid ballasts do not get hot normally. Many members in here try to fit their hid ballasts inside the housing so they do not have to drill their dust cap and nobody had ever had any issues with melting or overheating.

Yea the 2013+ Rams monitor the fogs with canbus so any 13+ Rams usually need decoders for the fogs. I’m lucky and I have a 2012 but at this point it doesn’t matter as I have AlphaOBD.

Late last night I remembered that I had a Elm327 OBD (12 bucks from Amazon) reader laying around and saw that the Alfaobd app was compatible.. I've seen a few people spell it alphaobd and alfaobd. Still looking to see if it's one in the same and that I'm not barking up the wrong tree. Anyway I went ahead downloaded the Alfaobd demo app and walked out to the truck and gave it a running through. VERY impressive! I could see error codes that didn't trip any check engine lights and alot of good info. Reminds me of a starscan tool in a way. I went back in to check out how to get to the input/output changes and didn't close the app.. ran out of demo time lol. It's only 15 minutes!! SO I'll probaby spend the 50 bucks anyway because I'm sure it will prove handy.

BTW, I watched a youtube video made by Big Daddy" .. gotta give the guy props! Good detail and that big fella is just silly enough to be entertaining

Purchased AlfaOBD.. Problem solved. Led fogs working fine now. I'm going disable my fogs dropping out with highs so that my fogs and highs run together as well. Great app!

If you haven't already, change any of the other lights you've converted to LED as it will eliminate the voltage regulation.
Some people spell it with a pH but it's AlfaOBD, originally it started out for Alfa Romeo cars. The app has now expanded to just about all FCA vehicles.
AlfaOBD is also useful for vehicle troubleshooting as you can watch live data from a lot of the modules in the vehicle.
Depending on the Elm OBD reader your using, some have reported problems talking and/or making changes with some of the vehicle modules. It might be worth watching for one of the OBDLink MX modules to go on sale. I picked up a new MX+ a few months ago for $50.

Thanks for the info.

First thing I did after enabling LED fogs was set the lows as having LEDs. I saw in the fine print about there being some elm327s that might not work. I seem to have no issues at all. Boots and connects right up.

Just played a little with clocking of the fogs.. They were at 3/9 and I turned them to 6/12 to have a look since my reflectors are at 6/12. I didn't take it down the road but the 6/12 seems to project father but I'm unsure if it will blind oncoming traffic.. I rely don't wanna be that guy. BUT if someone wants to be a **** about it.. . They may not like what I have in return.

I plan to try some reclocking on the projectors to see what that does as well.

Opinions on verical fogs clocking??

Dantra, please keep us updated on the LED fog light position. Everything I have read and seen show that the LED chips should be at 3 & 9 position, and even a video with a person doing that with the vertical fogs. The reflector on these are more up & down then they are side to side, thinking that the better placement should be at 12 & 6 like you did.

I played with the clocking and right now they are diagonal (opposing angles on each side) I had to run into town and didn't get high beamed. I DID HAVE RADIO INTERFERENCE WITH FOGS. I still have the Hikari filters I bought from Amazon so I'll try that.

With fogs and without.. And a highway shot
