Just bought 2 gallons of RL 5W30 and a bottle of RL SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner 15oz off of Eliteracefab.com. Free shipping and a total cost of $115.19.

Exactly the package that I ordered from them a few weeks ago...seemed to good to be true, and it was! Was told 2-7 days shipping and received nothing...they even quit communicating. Luckily, my CC company refunded the money back to me, and then went after Eliteracefab. I wish that I would have checked reviews on this place before ordering!

Latest 0w40 redline voa, as said this is for sure the least desirable redline for many reasons already stated, but another reason to not like this starting tbn in the 7's? Anyone have any idea how it can be that low despite the level of CA and other TBN additives? Hemiman - travis anyone? Can't figure this one.

Dunno, sorry. This gets into the additive chemistry that influences total base number TBN, which is an indirect measure of total additives.

I was diesel engine-focused at Mobil, spark engines were for the wimpy Consumer Division!

I can report a typical diesel engine oil TBN prior to EPA lowering sulfur content of diesel fuel was 12, and additives were formulated to slowly degrade TBN level. In a diesel, TBN is primarily a measure of oil ability to neutralize sulfuric acid formed as byproduct of combustion blowby into the oil. Obviously, sulfuric acid attacks nonferrous metals quickly, primarily the journal bearings. And I stated previously that Marine engine oils TBN is 70 because they burn high sulfur Bunker-C residual fuel. It's crude oil slop. The TBN additive in this oil is not robust as automotive diesel oil because marine engines burn the oil too! They never change oil - they just refill the sump! 100,000 bhp ship engines

The other big additive for diesels is polar molecule dispersant detergent additive that holds soot blowby in oil solution. When that additive becomes saturated, soot plates out on engine parts and wears them quickly. Soot is highly abrasive.

I have forgotten, or we didn't discuss, what these additive chemicals actually are. But I'm not gonna google without a laptop - my thumbs are tired!

Blackstones method for testing TBN is a newer test that apparantly shows a lower v i r g i n Tbn. I guess this method produces a better result with used oil but not with fresh oil so id bet its higher than 7. Mobils PDS for FS 0w40 shows 12.6 but blackstones last VOA of that oil showed 10.3 or something. Delvac extreme PDS i think shows 10 tbn but blackstone says 8 or so

m1 esp not sn or sp? looks like m1 pre sn+. I wasnt aware any m1 oil were built like this, my thought was a real old bottle?

hpl moly 1700, lol.
Esp is SN but latest pds suggests its changing to SP but I have not seen that in the wild. ESP also contains esters like all mobil 1 used to!

Hey guys, I’m curious. I hope this ain’t a dumb question but being that I’ve decided I’m just going to start running that Schaeffers 9000 supreme 5W20 full time in my truck, it’s not gonna be bad for my unused oil to sit for a period of one year or slightly over, is it? Granted, I live down here in the south and it gets pretty hot in the summertime and even though I insulated my garage door that receives a lot of that afternoon sun, it doesn’t get quite as warm in there as it used to but it still gets pretty warm in there.

The reason why I’m curious is because the cheapest I can find to buy this oil is to buy it in a 12 quart case from Amazon because I can get it with free shipping and last night when I looked, a 12 quart case was about $20 cheaper than what it was off Schaeffers website that only sells it in cases and is still going to charge $20-$30 to ship it.

Every other place I found online wants to charge about the same amount for shipping even if you buy it on a seven quart basis every time it’s time to change the oil.

thx, but it's still under warranty, and they've closed all the regional repair depots and send them all to a single repair location in Kentucky.

They push you to buy extended warranty, then make it a bear to use. 4-6 week turnaround.

Sound familiar, Ram owners? Corporate America 101.

If base oil is all Group IV and or V it's indefinite, as long as container is sealed against moisture. I recall permeability of HDPE bottles is low.

Group III will have a shelf life, varying by how saturated the molecules are within the Group allowed range, and robustness of antioxidant additives. That will vary by manufacturer, and you'd have to ask each.

Well, one thing about it, these are all in individual quart bottles so it’s not like a bunch of gallon bottles that I’d have to open and then store the rest so I should have that part covered anyway, but has it ever been determined if whether or not Schaeffers 9000 extreme is a group 4 or group 5 oil?

I guess I just need to drop them and email or give them a call.

EDITED TO ADD;
Decided to call them, supposedly the 9000 supreme 5W20 is a mixture of group 3 and group 4.

No idea. Can you tell from their SDS? You can always ask them.

Then they can ignore you or send you a nice picture like most of them do now days.

I went ahead and just decided to call them anyways and they said that oil is a mixture of group 3 and group 4 so is that good?
