Ok, I have a 2013 1500 Big Horn 4x4 with 3.55 gears. My truck is a dog and I just want some low end power. Would a edge tc do the trick or should I just do everthing. BTW my current mods are vararam intake, 87mm tb, carven ra-x, hemifever tuned.

I would do gears before I'd do a torque converter. You'll notice more of a different from them. Then if you want to do the TC from there you can do that.

Gears will be expensive because you will have to change out the complete front differential. Probably around $2-3 thousand in parts alone.

Figured, but if it's the better way to go, it's worth the money

I agree with Brandon then--gears first.

When was the last time you got ahold of Sean?

He is constantly tweaking tunes. His newer ones have a bunch more lowend grunt.

I went from 3.55's to 4.10's and the difference was noticeable, but not jaw dropping. With yours being a 4WD, if it were me, I'd go 4.56's or maybe even 4.88's. That will give you a definite noticeable change right off the bat, and if you want to go to bigger tires down the road, you're already geared for it (if you have no intention of larger tires 4.88's might be a bit much). With a 2013 I thought you could change out your front gears, or is that when they started welding them in, and you need 2012 or older axle up front?

I'm going to recommend the opposite. Gears are definitely a nice improvement, but with the 4wd gear swaps being such a pain and an expense for the 2012+ 4wd trucks, I would start off with the tq converter. The gears will show more of a gain in the mid-upper rpms, but the tq converter will do more for your off the line performance. Converter is also only About $800 for parts and labor, where the gear swap will be closer to $3000-$3500.

I'm with Matt, go with the converter before gears.

I agree with Hemi450hp. Especially if you have a 6 speed, I think the TC is a big part of the dog factor. Higher stall would probably help get more smiles per dollar than gears. Been considering it myself.

Thanks for the input! This is exactly what I'm looking for! I'll be buying from you shortly, lol

Like Matt and reek said, so long as you have the sixspeed , (sorry if you do) ,but do the stall. More bang for your buck. Gear swap in that truck is a pita. All that being said, do some research on the weak points of that tranny before you go beating the crap out of it!!! Enjoy!!!

the shift points are crap on the 6 speed, not much to be done about that. had a 2014 1500 with the 6. at the risk of offending certain forum members, I was not a fan. I "needed" more truck so I traded to a 2500 before I could mess with my 6 speed but I think a higher stall can definitely make things a bit more fun. . the only thing hold me back on my 2500 is my highway cruising RPMs are about 1500 or so. Not 100% sure what the factory stall is but most stock seem to be 1000 to 1200 range. Wondering how a higher stall would affect my high way performance. I've only played with TCs on my old resto cars that never see much highway use.
