I'm in the process of restoring a 1955 chevy - looks like it might become my daily driver instead of a hobby! haha
Just think about how much sense that realy makes. Lets say we can afford to buy a new $45k truck. Instead, we find a good body and frame pre 76 what ever. We put current tech suspension on it. A new engine, trans and rear end that is exactly what you want. Paint and interior all for say $25k. No smog BS. You know exactly what you have. It rides and handles like a new truck. Stated value insurance. It makes good sense. Had a 86 Ramcharger that I wish I had not sold. Would have have done this 2 trucks ago.

People will go to Nevada to buy their vehicles, that was quiet popular when I was out there in the early 70's.

I would not be surprised if “sale” turned into “sale or registered” later for new vehicles. The goal of the bill is to boost ZEV sales in California.

Question for you. I’m currently running the PUP mix of 4qts 5W-30 and 3qts 0W-40 with a WixXP oil filter. I’ve had great results on this combo but I feel like I could do a bit more to protect the motor, especially in the hot summer heat. It doesn’t really ever have any rattles or engine noise at start up and I change the oil about every 5K.

My question is this. I live in sunny south Florida where we see extreme heat temps up into the high 90’s and even into the 100’s from about April until early November. Would I be better off running something like Red Line 5W-40 year around? I’m just thinking about those hot days when the coolant temp is 208 and oil temps are ranging around 223 degrees in the city. The coldest it will get here is maybe in the high 20’s and that’s for 2 days max. By the way my truck is bone stock.

Thanks guys!

How are illegals going to afford new cars out there ?

The misconception is that they are all picking vegetables or cleaning houses. No, there is a huge portion of state employees who make $75-$100k with benefits and they are DACA or undocumented. Our state had a large amount of state employees being deported this year actually...

How many miles are on your engine? I’ve read a lot about redline rubber seal leaks on high mileage engines / sudden swaps to RL. Something about redline either cleaning out the system so well it exposes bad seals or it doesn’t expand the rubber seals enough to create a proper seal. Hope someone chimes in here.

Two thoughts on Diesel and Theo post. Over the last year I have gone to "oil school" regarding the new synthetics and rapidly changing oil formula's. I have concluded that RL, PUP and Amsoil are what I call Tier 1 quality oils. But that does not mean that anyone of them will have the same effect or results in our Hemi engines. RL has proven, for many members to be an effective Hemi engine oil. After experimenting with several oils my 03 5.7 with 230k miles found RL 10-40 to be the oil of choice. Quite and smooth. But there is a learning curve. RL is a high detergent. When first used in a HM engine you can experience internal engine noise in the first 500-1000 miles. After the molly additives take their set, it gets quite. Now that said, RL 10-40 is not sold as a HM formula. I have found that most people who have experienced positive results with RL, used in engines with less than 100k miles. I also use RL 5-30 in my 87 Turbo Grand National. Best oil results I have ever had in that car. In my 2018 2500 6.4 I run PUP 0-40 for warranty reasons. I too believe that blending viscosity when using PUP can make sense and provide increased dry start and wear protection. I found that PUP has a bit lower density than RL. If RL had a MS12663 certification I would use 5-30. This truck is being replaced by FCA. When I get the replacement truck I have decided to use 4 qrts of PUP 5-40 and 4 qrts PUP 0-40.

Ester oils had a seal conditioning issue WAY back in the day.

Not anymore.

Redline WILL clean the heck out of an engine though. Thats esters for ya.

FWIW , I've been running REDLINE oil in my 14 Ram for over 50k and I've had no leaks , I've been running it in my wife's 07 Dodge Magnum for nearly 100k with no leaks ...

Should of mentioned it’s a 2016 5.7 Hemi and only 30K on the truck. I bought it new and have used PUP since 10K. I’m not to worried about how well Red Line will clean out the motor since the motor shouldn’t be dirty using PUP and a WixXP filter anyway. I’m adding Red Line SP-I to the tank this weekend before changing the oil out in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for all of the info guys and I’m still debating between 5W-30 and 5W-40 [emoji848]

Yes I’m talking about Red Line 5W-40. I’m trying to decide between that and Red Line 5W-30 for Florida summers.

Would I be crazy to run half PUP and half RL?

Any stores in Texas that sell redline oil? Would like to buy from a store vs online.
