I am returning the truck to the dealer for the service department to determine what is drawing 4.5 amps consistently.

I can get the charger, but the battery will never be fully charged unless I get a 5 amp or higher charger for it to compensate for the 4.5 amps it is drawing.

Hopefully the service department will figure out the issue and the trickle charger will not be necessary.

Good luck with the stealership monkeys and please post any future developments.

Absolutely make them fix that. No way should it be drawing that large amount when shut off. It makes parking it overnight iffy. A charger is the right solution for parking vehicles for longer periods, in your case it is an interim fix to keep the vehicle running till it gets fixed properly. Like RamDriver said, let us know how it works out and what it was.

P.S. I get your comment about new vehicle but your actual problem is a lousy dealer. This would be no big thing if they had done their job and fixed it the first time you took it in. The fact you have to do the diagnosis on a brand new pickup is the issue.

Why not drop the truck off at a different dealer, leave it overnight .
See what happens?

My truck is currently at the dealer. The battery actually died while I was sitting there listening to the radio waiting for a ride. The ignition would not shut off from the on position. There is something seriously wrong and I have not heard a word from the dealer. When I check the app, the health report has not updated for 4 days.

I would take it to dealer, leave it over night and let them start it the next day while you are there. I have heard that cracking sound before and in my case it was weak battery.

I bought a new 2024 RAM 2500 HD and have had to jump start it every day since I got it. Dealer said battery is good and they had no problem.

I don't know what to do to get them to understand that every morning I go out to my truck it is dead.

I have verified the usual, nothing is left on, I have tried different troubleshooting techniques.

Tried leaving the radio off, locking it, leaving it unlocked, etc.

I just jumped it and it started for about a second and died instantly and I heard a loud "crack" or pop in the dash to the left of the steering wheel..

I jumped it again and it started, it has been idling for about 30 minutes to charge the battery.

Anyone have any ideas other than I am going to take it back to the dealer and I am afraid they will again say it tests and runs fine...???
If you have a lemon law in you state retain your documentation. The Turbo Diesel Register is a great forum to join. It's $35/year for four magazines and the guys on there have a wealth of knowledge. As stated find another dealer and open up a case with Ram. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/

My old 95 Dodge 2500 has a battery drain and I've got tired of chasing it(suspect mice)....NOT trusting any dealer I installed a battery disconnect at battery which requires poping hood each time I drive it which is and once 3 weeks using as a farm truck now.
Good luck-I know how frustrating that is.

They have had my truck for over a week, all they did was disconnect my dash cam (which draws .45 amps) and have done nothing else. The battery drain was happening before I put the dash cam in the vehicle. Then they had the nerve to tell me the technician that is working on it is in "training." I am done with this dealer and moving on! Picking up my truck this afternoon to do it myself and then take it to another dealer to resolve the issue once I have troubleshot it to the offending item.

Can someone please fact check the following:
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Measure amperage between the negative lead and the battery.
3. Amperage is at constant 4.5 amps even when vehicle should be asleep.
4. Pull fuses one at a time until amperage drops to near zero, you have found the component(s) drawing the amperage.

This is the one way that I know of to determine what is drawing amperage when it should not be.

After a week in the service department and all they did was disconnect the dash cam and then say they are waiting to see if the battery still drains instead of measuring amperage. This is not how to determine in an orderly or respectable amount of time what the issue is.

Am I valid in my concerns?

Thanks,

Only thing I would add is to make sure the doors are closed and locked and have waited about an hour before pulling fuses under the hood to give time for all the modules to go to sleep. I would also suggest taking a picture of your fuse panel for later reference and as you pull each fuse, leave them out until done as reinserting them can sometimes also wake up a module.

I would also add that if you have a under hood lamp, pull it also. 4.5 amps is about what a average automotive incandescent bulb pulls also.

Thank you for your comment. No under hood light that I ever saw. I picked it up from the dealer today so I can drive it through my cool down period of being upset at their having it almost as long as I have had it at this point. Maybe I will do some troubleshooting and then take it back in for them to try a third time to resolve this issue. Shame there is not a technician that can resolve this quickly by knowing how to troubleshoot it in a quicker fashion. SMH...

I thought Ram had road side assistance as part of their basic 3 year 36,000. Tell them to come jump every morning and maybe they will get the hint.

Roadside assistance is contracted out third party. Dealership has nothing to do with it. Also, response times could be 30 minutes or 3+ hours.

Doesn't matter. Ram is still paying for whoever shows up. They are going to get tired of footing the bill for the same dead battery call.
I have used road side before and never waited three hours. But to cover yourself call them at 2:00 AM. Then they will show up before it is time to leave for work.

I am going to do a little troubleshooting and when I get tired of it and can spare my truck, I will again take it in for them to fix.

I get the point you are trying to make but most of us live in the real world that cannot afford the unknown response time of waiting on them multiple days in a row. It is unrealistic.

It's not that the dealer does not know there is a problem.

My issue is they had it for 6 workdays and all they had done was disconnect my dashcam as a troubleshooting technique.

I expected more from them in the way of troubleshooting in 6 days.

They did install my Mopar bed step for free, LOL...
