My 00 1500 with a freshly rebuilt magnum 360 has a strange rattle between the engine and trans. Only seems to do it when warmed up. Sounds louder near the trans area but not sure. Couldn't hear anything at all with a stethoscope so I'm confused. Maybe flexplate bolts are loose? It also has a...
I recently fully rebuilt my magnum 5.9l engine. Recently when the engine is between 1200-2000 rpms it makes a bit of tick/chatter noise. If I rev it any higher it sounds smooth. If I quick rev it it sounds fine. Only makes nosie when held at below 2000 rpm. The motor has a comp cam, new lifters...
Yea I replaced the pinion seal. Still has a small leak. Whatever. More grease woulda been smart. A tiny bit of stop leak fixed or slowed it greatly. Although I hate the idea of stop leak a ton....
Just realized I never updated this thread about the noise. It was both a blown t case and blown differential. Swapped them both out with some lower mileage used ones and so far no issues other then a pinion seal leak thats still there after replacing the seal. The old differential had a chip in...
I ended up trashing that entire differential and bought a 3rd gen with disc brakes. Welded the brackets in the right spots and swapped it in. So far no issues with the stock proportioning valve but time will tell. If needed, I will swap in an adjustable one but right now I'm loving it.
Makes sense. I think I got that fixed. Now my next question is about the camshaft. I have narrowed it down to 3. Comp Cam 20-745-9, Comp Cam 20-744-9, and Hughes SER0814ALN-14. Any experience with any of these? I want the Cam to sound noticeably different from stock while increasing power.
So I am in the process of rebuilding a 5.9l for my truck. One question I have is how to install the distributor what I have the cam and crank back in and timed? I have read mixed things. Do I have to have the TDC mark on the distributor pointed toward cyl 1 when it's on tdc? Do I then have to...
Yea that's what I may end up doing. Right now it works well enough. It's just strange to me because the sensor thinks it's disconnected but not. Maybe like you said something is just a little gunked up and needs cleaned so it won't allow it to slide as easily. Hopefully that's it.
So I have bought a differential from a 3rd gen ram with disk brakes. I've been following a thread on how to do the swap. Seems simple enough. The only thing it doesn't mention is having to fool with the proportioning valve. It doesn't sound like the guy had to do anything to it and he drove it...
Tried that. Seems like it only goes out of 4wd if I fully turn the wheel and drive a few feet. Really not a big deal but is there anything I can clean to maybe make it easier?
Update. I bought all new vacuum lines for my 4x4 system. Only $50. 4x4 engages perfectly. Only small issue is when I take it out of 4 wheel drive, the front axle stays connected sometimes. Almost like it sticks. The light on the dash says it's out of 4x4, but the front axle is still locked. It...
One last question. Do you know of any aftermarket rear shock mounts for the rear end? I am swapping in a 3rd gen 9.25 and it's kinda rusty so I want new shock mounts as well. Anything helps. Thanks
Thanks man. Extremely helpful. Another random question, is there weatherstripping connected the doors of these trucks? Mine has weatherstripping on the body, but is there some on the door as well? Mine doesn't have any on the doors.Asking because my doors leak and this truck is new to me. Thanks
I am trying to buy new leaf spring perches for my 2000 Ram 1500 with the chrysler 9.25. I am having a hell of a time finding the dimensions of the stock ones. I think the stock leaf springs are 2.5 inches wide and the axle tubes 3.5 inches in diameter but not sure. Is that all I need? Any help...
I've done the poor mans version with a long screwdriver to figure out which pulley was bad. Engine doesn't make any noise at idle so I'm gonna have to have someone rev it while I try to listen. All I can tell so far is it seems to be on passenger side. Which is also where the tensioner pulley is...
Yea that's unfortunately what I thought. Chances are if I'm going to inspect it, I'm going to replace it even if it's not bad. My noise js kinda similar to that one. But mine only does jt when revved. For now I know my tensioner pulley is bad so might as well change that and hope it magically...
I am hoping it's not the lifter. I owned a Jeep 4.0l before this engine so I know a lot about lifters lol. My Jeep sounded like a diesel at idle but would smooth out with rpm. I may look into an engine accessory. I know one of them makes a funny noise at idle. At least I think it's an engine...
Well I pulled the rear dif cover and found a bunch of destruction. Not to mention my pinion bearing is noisy. So now I have decided to swap the whole rear differential for a used one with lower miles. Biggest issue is that my gear ratio (3.92) is impossible to find in second gen 9.25s. I am...
