Kristin, actually running the 91 tune using 89 octane gas can slow you down. The engine has knock sensors and if they pickup a knock they signal the PCM to retard the spark causing you to lose power. I run 93 octane on a 91 tune back when I could actually load a tuner. The SC3815 doesn't do the trans tune, but it is all anyone needs for a 03 model. Your RCSB can run mid 6 second with tires hooking up. Gears and a TC will get you into the high 5's with a stock motor. Good luck..

I see in your sig you have gears and a converter. What kind of time are you running to 60?

So I should take it off the 91 tune? What should I put it back on then?

She needs the newer one for trans control, the first time on the plugs will take some time after that you will be able to blow through them. Depending on the miles you may be due for wires and coil boots.

I have 63k miles on the truck... when should i do the plugs and wires?

Red's best 0-60 has been 5.97 and did 8.98 /81 mph in the 1/8th. Will be installing LT's this coming week running dual OEM cats. Pretty pumped to see how that effects things. I found the OEM cats flow better than the Maganflow "Hi-Flow" cats. Bits and pieces arriving daily.

It is really hard to compare lifted trucks to street trucks. There are just too much difference.

If you are running 89 on the 91 tune, your just shooting yourself in the foot, like was said before the truck has know sensors and I bet yours are going off like the 4th of july right now. They "detune" the vehicle to prevent damage. If you are going to run 89, drop it down to the 87 tune, it makes for a fun ride down low but you'll burn through gas like its nothing and top end will not be as good. If you want the 91 tune, run at least 91octane in it. You'll get better mpg's and get more mid and top end out of it.

kristin, maybe take a look at a wideband gage so you know what's happening with you fuel mixture. Or possibly a AeroForce gage to cover trans temp, knock, trims and a bunch more. Occassionally you can catch one at a good price. There are others but I haven't used them.

Hemibabe, You need a spark plug change, reccommended every 15,ooo. but most do them between 30,000 and 50,000. Some even longer, but you need it, for sure

Yep ,thats all of 12 seconds.

Thats the reason why I stopped the performance mods. Now it's maintenance and looks. 4x4's weren't made for 1/4 mile action. However I got enough under the hood too make most panties wet.:naughty:
High 5's and low 6's are lightening quick for a 4x4. Well done to both rigs.

Yep, Aaron's truck is an excellent example of the difference weight, lift and tires can make in accelleration. He has excellent engine mods and gears and 6 second runs are quick for any vehicle. Redtruck is as light as a street truck can get without stripping, with crank windows, no bumper, or spare. I have always kept weight in mind with every mod. Also lowering really reduces overall drag. Street is great fun!
Well done Aaron...

Ok, well I don't want to burn thru gas like crazy, and I dont want the knock sensors to be goin off, so what setting should I put it on then???? I have no clue what to do here. Or should I just take it back to stock??? Help :(

Well again, if you are not running at least 91 in the tank DO NOT set it to the 91 tune or you can do potential harm to your truck and it will kill the performance. Set it to the 87 tune (not the mileage XS crap tune) until you can fill back up with 91.

Running 89 on the 87 tune, made my truck run good and it felt good on the throttle too, but I got a consistant 2-3mpg less than I did running the 91 tune and felt like I was fillling up a lot more than usual.

Regardless of what you want to do, you have to put the right fuel in with the right tune. 89 doesnt work with the 91 performance tune.

I would return to a 87 tune, or mileage excess tune, (if those are options)
Then you could burn 89 or even 87 for that matter. interesting enough, with the previous tunes mentioned you can burn even higher octanes with no ill effects. Ya just cant go the other way. higher tune with lower octanes.
the plugs and air filter should be changed, unless you can clean the cai if you have one. Napa ,orielly's,advanced. They all have a cleaner kit. I use k&n cleaner kit. It's good for a year. The filter element never needs to be replaced, just cleaned. Stock air filters need to be replaced. The benifits of all this is a better running truck and better mpg's. Also look into an oil change if not done in the last 5,000 miles (synthetic) 3,000 if dinosaur juice.

Hope that helps you Krissy.
