Just got my Bil 6112 in the front and 5160 in the read installed with Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 35" (stock 20's), along with EBC heavy duty truck brakes yesterday (10/31). MOTHER OF GOD!!!! 2.5 inch lift from the 6112's alone, and it rides freaking fantastic. smooth, doesn't lean, is NOT harsh... the tires, zero hum even at 75mph. Im in bad street california (palmdale), this truck is WAY funner to drive now. The brakes, no more squishy, soft, wont stop type brakes. They bite flawlessly and with very little effort. No nose dive... and hitting a turn with bump doesn't send the truck bouncing all over. Very flat and smooth. LOVE IT!

Yeah I replaced both front and back. Thmotorsports.com best prices i've found. I took 1.5yrs to search, test drive etc etc. Since I don't do much romping other than to go in the desert to shoot, the bilsteins fit the bill. The tires I didn't want a stupid heavy tire like the toyo's, and mickey thompson is praised greatly.

Pics - later today.

What’s the reason y’all went with the 6112 over the 5100?

During my lift research here and on other forums, I read a few members say their 5100's rode somewhat stiffer/firmer (I'm not saying that's good or bad), I also read a few members complain about sagging and blaming the Bilstein strut. Opinions vary so I took all that with a grain of salt as they say. However, I wondered if these issues were due more to the OEM coil spring itself and not the 5100 strut. I read the 6112 coils were engineered for this so maybe they wouldn't ride too firm or sag over time too much. Also since I have a BDS lift with new rear coils I also kind of wanted new front coils and the 6112's with lifetime warranty was sort of a missing link to my complete setup. My lift/struts have only been installed a few weeks so for me the verdict is still out for any long term review, but in the short term I really like how my truck rides, very smooth. One thing I have noticed is after my lift/strut my truck measures within 1/8" side to side whereas before with factory coils it had a lean and was closer to 1/2" off side to side.

For me it was I wanted the newer technology and something that was as solid as fox 2.0's. The Bilstein 6112 are built with some meat on it. The 5160 has a reservoir and is also thicker. I read a lot, did a crap ton of research and for the city driving and dirt trail driving, the bilsteins fit the bill perfectly. I don't regret my tires, shocks, or brake selection one bit. This is how the truck should have come off the line.

You mind taking a close up of your rear 5160s? When I upgrade I’m definitely gonna go that route

Are those 35x12.50r20? Any rubbing?

They are just that. No rubbing with the Bils set one notch down from max. I've locked the wheel, hit bumps going fast, taken turns fast, etc etc. Never heard or seen any rubbing. No spacers in the wheels, it's stock rims. Real happy. Having it tuned and adjusted this weekend.

I did the same 6112's (at 1.3) but I chose to go with Fox 2.0's out back.

From what I found the 5160's are the same as the 5100's except with a resi and short warranty (valving was the same as the 5100).

Only complaint I have....if it even is one is that I notice more wheel hop out back if I spin in the rain.

Are your rear fox shocks that soft, is the ride bouncy?

OP can you explain your reasoning for 6112’s over the Fox 2.0’s. I’m thinking about doing your set up as well with 5100’s in the rear but it’s only a $350 difference from fox and I have enjoyed 2.0’s and the control they have in the past. Thanks in advance!

No, they are not super soft or bouncy at all and pair up perfectly (at least to me) with the Bills.

It not really a 100% fair comparison to factory as I was lowered for a few months before the Fox and those springs were firmer than factory and there was no hop.

It a slow wheel speed hop on wet pavement, if I spun then hard it would be okay.

Do you still use the original upper controlarms with the 6112?

There is benefits to run the 5160 over the 5100
