I'm a bit confused on what might be the issue with my 2009 Ram Sport Quad. I bought this truck used two months ago. It ran great until about a week ago. I experienced it not starting after driving for a bit. I was out driving around doing some erronds, I stopped shut off the truck was gone for about 5 minutes came back and the truck wouldn't start. I let it sit for about a minute, still wouldn't start. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and with luck, it started. Then just the other day, after driving for about 20 minutes. I stopped got back in my truck after it was sitting for half an hour it wouldn't start at all. It engine will crank, fire a bit and then the starter will just be cranking the engine, with no sputter like the engine is trying to start. The truck will start after it's been sitting for hours, and I can drive for hours, it runs great , idles smooth, but as soon as I shut it off and try to start it...nothing. The real kicker is though, I hooked up my OBD2 scanner, drove around for 15 minutes and no error codes were reported. I just don't get it. Please help!!! If anyones had the same experience and know what a fix or the what the problem may be, I'd appreciate your comments. I'm going to be taking it to the dealer in a few days, but this has me baffled.

Every day I can go out and start the truck. It fires right up, but after letting it run or if I drive it for awhile, shut it off, then go to start it again. it will try to fire for about 5 seconds and then quit. I'll try starting it again and the starter will just crank with no fire until I turn off the key. So I don't think it's the starter. The starter seams to be good. The battery checks out OK.

Something with the fuel line, have you ever had a tuneup and how many miles are you on? The Heme needs new plugs every 30k or so. What is your fuel pressure?

Fuel, air and spark, the engine will run. It is rarely an air problem, and it sounds like you have spark. Can check your oil to see if there is a lot of fuel in there. My best guess would be fuel pump, gas vap lock, bad injectors, or something to do with the fuel line. What is telling is there is no codes, which means it isn't a sensor shutting the engine down to protect it because it's too hot. You engine is being starved for gas or air or possibly spark, or getting too much of fuel.

My immediate thought is Fuel vaporizing in the lines causing the injectors not to push fuel into the cylinders. Im not a mechanic but thats the best I can really come up with. with the electronics on trucks these days, there is so much spark generation, it is rarely that. id bet money it is Fuel delivery related.

1.) Have you checked to see if your truck is part of the recall that's out right now?

2.) Crank position sensor if not #1.

Thx guys for your replies. I'm at a loss now. It won't start at all now. Was going to drive it to the Dodge dealership this morning but it wouldn't start, it just cranks and cranks. So I'm just waiting for a tow truck to haul it away.

is there a red light on the dash that flashes when its cranking? This would indicate its not reading the correct key being used. I believe the transponder system shuts off the fuel system until it reads the correct key.

Could be so many things on these vehicles that are so dependent on the computer system. Have you considered it is an ignition system issue that isn't providing spark to the plugs?

Well guys, I got my 09 Ram back and it apparently had a broken electrical connection at the fuel pump, not what I'd expected. She back on the road again. Thx for all your feedback.
