I just picked up a cheap 2009 Ram 1500 5.7 170k I was told the camshaft pin for the gear shared off sure enough it did. I assume someone installed a cam at some point and didn't tighten bolt I don't see any other major engine damage with the borescope in cylinders. I am sure it has a few bent valves ect is the pin part of the cam or can I drill it out and replace it? If so anyone know the part number or where I can get one?

Thanks.

I emailed summit waiting to hear back but I don't even know the size of the pin so that doesn't help.

start working on removing the pin ,maybe if you get it out you can get a measurment if it’s not to messed up .something likely caused a sudden stop of rotating components .im interested.

I still have my oem cam I pulled with the pin still in it. If you haven't found o e yet, I can pull this pin and its all yours. Measure it, use it, melt it down for a premium reload, it's all yours. It'll take me a couple hours but them I can break loose and go check out what's there.

Heck with it, my current task s.u.c.ks, I'll go grab it now and send at least some photos.

Really? Is that even possible, even for the luckiest of them (not me)? I always assumed major catastrophic failure if the shafts spun out of time. I don't disbelieve, I just know I would be picking a fair amount of my engine out of my crankcase.
But that's bada$$ if it's all straight.
Glad you found a pin, it didn't feel like this one was coming out in one piece. I even tried a little heat on it.
But there are the dimensions of an oe pin, you can verify your order.
Post back if she fires up, actuay either way, dying to know.

While I agree this is how it should be the Push rods aren't bent I looked lol I just had a similar thing happen with a high mileage 3rd gen 5.7 it lost its chain replaced it and it ran like nothing happened. I have no idea how maybe it fell off on startup before lifters pumped up? probly will never know its starting to look the same on this one I am guna record when i start it up!

I don’t know if this is applicable, but I work on guns a little, and if there is a missing pin, quite often a piece of drill bit shank can be used. Drill bits are usually a precise diameter. They’re hard. Just have to grind them to the proper length. Works in a pinch.

Beat me to it, I had the same problem this gentleman describes but I sheared my pin when doing a cam install and trying to test for interference; didn't have the crank bolt tight enough! Used a drill bit shank like you advised and it's worked well!

IME, almost all cam pins are press fit. Pull cam and see if the hole is thru or blind. If blind, you can A: have a bud with a MIG/TIG weld an extension on the pin and pull it out or B: back drill the blind hole an punch it out. Apply heat sparingly! Good luck.
