That's good news.

Normally they will list the failure mode or the TSB/Rapid Response Bulletin that applies to the vehicle repairs on the repair service order so that there is no question FCA approved the replacement.

Too bad about the minivan but it has to be better than this piece of crap they gave me when mine as in for an engine replacement:

This thing literally rocked back and forth in time with the wipers if they were on High and the vehicle was sitting still.

:favorites68:
Now that's funny right there! What engine did you have to get replaced sir, and what for??

Woke up this afternoon (I work nights) to a text stating to come to the dealership. Now my mind is in overload as to the vague message. I get there and my service advisor says he has bad an good news for me...… So I tell him that I'd rather have the bad news first and then go from there. Th bad news was that they were giving me a minivan courtesy vehicle and the good news was that they were replacing my engine! So the new engine (long block) is on its way and fingers crossed I'm hoping to be back in my truck by the end of next week. They didn't say why the engine failed and when I inquired they really didn't seem to care other than I was getting a new engine. I'll take it for now. Will keep everyone posted as to when everything is finished and if there are any other issues.
That's great news, so happy for you. After you get your truck back and are happy with the installation Please try and find out what went wrong and report back to us. We have many Many cam and lifter failures, mostly in the 5.7 but yours could be the 2nd on this forum for the 6.4.

2014 2500 6.4L HEMI, 2K miles, failure mode was undersized wrist pins. Damn thing clattered like a 1 million mile Detroit diesel on cold start up at first. Eventually, the noise never stopped.

I didn't have to show oil changes because I had all of them done at the dealer.

I am assuming that it was the wrist pin failure that has been reported with the 6.4 Hemi. When I inquired about what they found they just told me that the engine failed and they were replacing it. Service Tech told me that they wouldn't bother to tear the engine down to figure it out, they would just replace.

I also bought up the engine noise that was occurring before the engine warmed up and they told me it was normal for that engine. I also had power surge issues and that is another symptom of the wrist pin failure.

I am still in shock that this is happening and that it hopefully happens fairly quick. I have read some horror stories from other owners on other forums that have had this drag out for months!

If you had your oil changes at the dealership then you got Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (PUP) and a Mopar oil filter. PUP is a fantastic oil but the oil filter is junk IMO. What was you oil change interval?

Well he might of received pup or it might of been dealers choice.:happy3:
That's a very good point, could be the reason they are replacing the engine no questions asked. In my experience they tear down the engine to find the cause of the failure. I think they are required to tear it down to get FCA approval for repair/replacement, but not sure. A little strange they won't give a specific reason and are simply installing a new engine.

Again, when you get a copy of the service ticket it should have the failure mode determined based on the tests the tech did. They should list this information.

No tear down is needed for the wrist pin diagnostic test.

I suspect that the "build date" is the key to the decision to replace engine. This is the "no talk" dealer/Mopar agreement. This was the case in those buy backs FCA has authorized for exhaust leaks. They knew they had an assembly issue for x # of vehicles assembled between a certain date. Avoids dealer alerts, TBS and the big one recalls.

HammerHead, oil change interval was when the change oil light came on. I figure they know what they are doing when it comes to that so I just took it in when the light came on.. I could be in the wrong but that's what I did, it averaged out to about 10K miles I believe.

Fitz87gn, I am also assuming that the build date was a key factor and that's why there were no questions asked.

I attached the service bulletin. Keep in mind that there are NO 2015 model year trucks in the bulletin although there were some trucks that received that specific engine.

The OLM is “dumb” and it will always never exceed 10,000 miles.

Start a UOA program with blackstone when you get your new engine. It will keep your mind at ease or give you in-site of problems you had no idea you were having.

FCA does not “Recognize” UOA’s for any diagnosis but in the end it will help you.

My local.dealership uses a bulk oil tank of 500 gallons in all their " free " dealer oil changes .....after that I don't know ...this is why I started doing my own .

I got my truck back yesterday and everything is GTG. New engine is in and the truck is running fine for now. I don't really for see any issues but you never know, hopefully it does not start to nickel and dime me!
