2015 U5.0 Software upgrade

hopefully, you all can help me out. My 2015 has U5.0 and I was able to make and receive phone calls hands free.... a great feature, I thought. I got a new phone, Android, and it would no longer work. checked and sure enough, needed a software update....BUT to have the dealer do it, is an hour long task at $165/hr. This seems unreasonable to me. Thought it should update automatically or something.... anyone having this problem?....anyone got a fix? (other than pay the $165)....Thanks!

First a belated WELCOME to the group !
I'm no help but will follow as I also have a 2015 with the U 5.0 Radio, I have a I Phone right now but may change later ! BUT $165 for the dealer to do it :O is IMO ridiculous ! I assume you can down load it to a USB yourself but hopefully the Tech people chime in !

I would go to uconnect and check to see what updates may be available for your truck. Then work from there. Your VIN will give the updates for your vehicle. Others can supply more detailed info.

Mlehn5, I would suggest a number of things.
First see if you can determine the current software on your 5.0 radio.
2. As mentioned by bankshot check uConnect website to see if there is an update available. If there is then it is not all that difficult to do the update.
3. If for some reason you cant get an update let us know. I may have a recent update file as my 2015 was originally equipped with the 5.0.
4. I would fine it highly unlikely that your new phone is not compatible with a 2015 vehicle. Try to unpair it and repair and also check the settings on your new phone. Something might not be set correctly in the phone.

Thanks guys. For clarification the U5.0 works fine BUT my new phone (Galaxy S10e) is not listed on the list of phones supported in the list that pops up for trying to connect the phone....it can't find it because U5.0 did not or has not loaded THAT phone into their software as a supported device. I'm going to try the visit to the U5.0 site and see if the S10e is available yet.... btw, there is an info sheet that pops up on "how to update your software yourself, but it requires a USB stick with 5 GB of memory that i the owner am supposed to have and download their update. That seems bizarre and the process to update is so complex, I was having trouble following it. It all just seems a little weird that download updates are not automatic in this day and age. Get them all the time on my PC... just got surprised that my truck and Ram did not also do it, or at least, provide dealer support for some reasonable cost. Anything it takes the dealer an hour to do online just seemed beyond me and again was hoping someone had tackled this matter and found some reasonable work around. Anyway, thanks for your comments and suggestions...

USB sticks are cheap at Walmart. After you are done with the update you can use the stick to transfer files between computers or to store music to play in the truck.
The 5.0 cant do OTA updates because it does not have an air card in it like the 8.4. Even then a transplanted 8.4 wont get OTA updates.

Okay.... Victory! Went to the Uconnect site... downloaded the update....followed all the instructions after making several mistakes, but going back and correcting steps...finally, loaded the update and was successful at pairing the new Galaxy S10e to the 2015 Ram..... Thank you for all your help!
