I had a long thread a bit ago concerning the Autotechnica aluminum pan.. this thread is not about that one. Also not about the Dorman.. so I refreshed my eBay search and found this guy. For the price I couldn't pass it up.. and as a reminder I work from home so the miles are not going to rack up.
I know.. I know. it flies in the face of what I was thinking previously. Again though.. if it's a legit OEM pan and barely a Benjamin Franklin what's not to like?

I based this purchase off of the OEM part number: 68225344AA (as per RockAuto)

the overall quality seems to be on par with whats on my truck. I mean.. it's plastic, there's casting marks just like the original. it's imprinted with 'Made in Germany' and 'Filtran' so if it's a clone it's damn good compared to pics I've seen of others.

The thing that throws me off is the box. (First couple of pics) there's a seal there that was cut not by me. I mean hell, I'm sure ZF (or whomever the distributor is) ships these things all over the world.. why wouldn't they ship them to an Asian country right? But why a seam seal like this? The 'Lifetime Oil' label is another.. anyone have access to a BMW to compare? FWIW the seller is based in Jersey City, NJ.

In the second pic you will see a label over a label. The ZF partnumber, 1087.298.247 does turn up as a ZF Aftermarket (aftermarket.zf.com) part..but I can't seem to register so I can access more details on it.
The gasket.. full rubber. If you can tell in the pic it's got a lip that seats down into a channel in the pan edge. But it's 100% rubber (feeling/looking anyway). I have less than an idea on what the OEM is.

Lastly the magnets. Yeah they're perforated almost.. I checked because the look and feel of them suggested otherwise but they are, in fact magnetic. I do not like it. Why the **** cheap out and take the extra time to cut/drill oblong holes? I want to epoxy actual/full magnets in there.

Anyway, it arrived today and I thought I'd share information because hey.. what's the internet for right? Other than cat videos.

Looks like it has no sump, not sure i'd use it on a truck that tilts the transmission down a fair bit.
Get some better pics of it from the side, and not so close up,so we can actually see the pan.
You might want to compare it to your original pan

Some of the pans for the cars are much shallower. It will fit, but you’ll have less fluid.
The trucks kind of require the sump,to offset the angle of the transmission. If they'd of thought they could use the same pan on the trucks as the cars use,you can be sure they'd of used the same pan,as it would keep production costs down.

Ok so never mind guys this is def NOT the same pan. This one for the 8HP45 so yeah it'd technically fit, might even work but for sure will hold less fluid.
The ZF part number for what's on my truck is 0501.220.214

This sucks and is hella stupid.. Mopar #68225344AA seems to fit everything from a 300, and a Durango to the 1500-3500 and a Grand Cherokees.

Why does it seem like you are trying to re-invent the wheel when it comes to a transmission pan?

Because I dont agree with paying the exorbitant prices for PPE or Mopar direct? If that is your understanding of what I've put here then you've misunderstood the entire thing.

You can use the trucks pan on the cars with no issues, but i wouldn't use the cars pan on the trucks,as i'm pretty sure the sump on the trucks pan is a bit of a requirement,to offset the angle of the transmission in the trucks.
Only my thoughts though.

Another forum had a long thread comparing the mopar and filtran branded pan,and they were exactly the same . They did a thorough photographic side by side. Size, magnets, filters everything. But it was about half the price of the Mopar part number. The Filtran version was Mopar #68233701AA...It was 94 bucks 6 years ago but now seeing it for 143ish at Mopar oem parts sites. Here's one of them.
Mopar Parts Overstock
It's still less than half the price of the official one. I would link the forum thread but not sure that's allowed here. Just google "compare filtran vs mopar pan for 2015 ram 1500" it will be the first or second thread that pops up.

Honestly, I think the premium that PPE wants is worth it, to me, to have an aluminum pan vs. a plastic one.

Sure, there are plastic pans on likely millions of vehicles, but on a truck that might be off road, aluminum should be a bit more durable vs. plastic, on the underside.

But that's me. Maybe I'm wrong. But I did put on a PPE for the reasons above.

^^^^^^
This!

Unless your truck is a driveway princess/grocery getter, why would anyone want plastic anything on the underside?

That doesn't compute in my brain, especially when you can get a better reusable aluminum pan for pennies more.

To each, their own. I'm with emjohn4 and countless others.

I can't comment about fitment, but based on the labeling I'm suspicious it's a knock-off.

I bought a very similarly labeled pan off ebay a while back. Tried to get opinions on here if people thought it was legit and all I got was replies to buy a PPE pan. This does make me think I need to take a closer look at the pan I bought. I previously bought an ebay 8hp45 pan for my old 1500 and it was identical to the factory pan.

A plastic pan for $300 is definitely exorbitant but not the PPE in comparison. It's built like a brick sht house. This one does look a little shallow but hard to tell from pictures. All of those chinese characters and "made in Germany" is a little suspect.

The factory gasket has the rib like that one that sits down in a channel.

I kinda think its a ZF pan sold in the Chinese market then resold in the US on ebay. Still about $100 but way better than buying one from Mopar. The only chinese characters are on the label on the box.

That's what I figured, if I'm gonna drop $300 for an OE pan, might as well spend a few $ more and get the PPE.

The wifes GC started leaking at the tranny pan around 80k miles. Bought a cheap plastic replacement and it leaked too. Said screw it and bought PPE and haven't had an issue since.

Bought two more for my other trucks after that.

Hard to tell these days but if the transmission side interface is flat it should seal well, aside from the sump depth question.
