I had a long thread a bit ago concerning the Autotechnica aluminum pan.. this thread is not about that one. Also not about the Dorman.. so I refreshed my eBay search and found this guy. For the price I couldn't pass it up.. and as a reminder I work from home so the miles are not going to rack up.
I know.. I know. it flies in the face of what I was thinking previously. Again though.. if it's a legit OEM pan and barely a Benjamin Franklin what's not to like?
I based this purchase off of the OEM part number: 68225344AA (as per RockAuto)
the overall quality seems to be on par with whats on my truck. I mean.. it's plastic, there's casting marks just like the original. it's imprinted with 'Made in Germany' and 'Filtran' so if it's a clone it's damn good compared to pics I've seen of others.
The thing that throws me off is the box. (First couple of pics) there's a seal there that was cut not by me. I mean hell, I'm sure ZF (or whomever the distributor is) ships these things all over the world.. why wouldn't they ship them to an Asian country right? But why a seam seal like this? The 'Lifetime Oil' label is another.. anyone have access to a BMW to compare? FWIW the seller is based in Jersey City, NJ.
In the second pic you will see a label over a label. The ZF partnumber, 1087.298.247 does turn up as a ZF Aftermarket (aftermarket.zf.com) part..but I can't seem to register so I can access more details on it.
The gasket.. full rubber. If you can tell in the pic it's got a lip that seats down into a channel in the pan edge. But it's 100% rubber (feeling/looking anyway). I have less than an idea on what the OEM is.
Lastly the magnets. Yeah they're perforated almost.. I checked because the look and feel of them suggested otherwise but they are, in fact magnetic. I do not like it. Why the **** cheap out and take the extra time to cut/drill oblong holes? I want to epoxy actual/full magnets in there.
Anyway, it arrived today and I thought I'd share information because hey.. what's the internet for right? Other than cat videos.
