How do I check eco mode is turned on?
Nothing turns on in the dash to.indicate if it's working.

IIRC, the setting for ECO mode to show up in the instrument cluster is in the UConnect setting under something like fuel savings or fuel economy. It's been a while since I have looked at a truck with the option.

If your truck has the 5.7 HEMI then the ECO Mode you are referring to is called MDS or Multiple Displacement System. What MDS does is deactivate cylinders #1, #4, #6 and #7 while driving above 25mph. There are several other parameters that have to be met for the PCM to enable MDS operation.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi. At times the engine light comes on and I lose the eco and miles driven on the dash. I can use the MDS manually with no problems. In checking for the eco mode while going 60 mph in "D" mode, the tach showed the rpms at 1250 rpm but no ECO reading.

I disconnect the battery and let it sit for 15 minutes and reconnect. Engine light goes off, mileage driven show, and all seems to work well. I am wondering why this is happening?

Is all working but the computer is not showing? Is it a weak connection somewhere? Or is it age? I am baffled but still love my Ram.

Did you get a CEL or are there any trouble codes in memory?

As 04 says, find out whats causing it to turn on the check engine light,it must be throwing a code.If it's throwing a code disconnecting the battery isn't doing you any favours,as that makes it harder to scan it for codes and find out what codes it's throwing.

Are you using the shift buttons on the steering wheel? If so, those override the "ECO" mode. If you just put it in Drive and go, without using the manual shift buttons, you should see the ECO light come on in the cluster.

I thought there was a option in the radio settings about the eco light, doesn’t effect when it engages, just if you see the light on the dash.

Not sure. Never really looked. Only things I have changed through UConnect are the colors on the screen and disabling the rain sensing wipers.

Didn't check if engine actually went in MDS or not, but the eco light on cluster stays on with Tow Mode on or off

Mine too, the eco light stays on in Tow Mode.

I didn't detect any changes in RPM or mpg on the EVIC while switching the Tow Mode, on & off.

The ECO light will still come on with MDS disabled and the complete wiring harness under the intake removed,if it's turned on in the menu. A couple years ago,i had 1 of them so called self genius's tell me it wouldn't come on if the MDS was deleted,so i took him for a ride in my truck, to shut the sumb!tch up,as he was getting to be a pain in my **** arguing that it wouldn't come on,so i proved it would, ;) :Big Laugh:

That idiot like acts like it's a vacuum gauge with very light engine load sets it off, and that's it.

An update: I lost the eco light and such while driving normally. Since I do not have a code monitor, I thought I bring to my mechanic in a few days. Three days later the eco indicator is back and all seems good. I do not understand what is setting it off. Could it be the battery is reaching EOL...end of life... and the MDS is confused?

Update on ECO light vanishing.
I had the Ram battery tested for voltage and load. All looked good. Load was over 10.5 for 15 seconds. The tech said the battery is okay but I should continue monitoring it since something is causing the ECO light to fail and the engine light appearing.

The tach shows the rpms to be at 1250 going 55 mph or so but the ECO notice does not appear. Is the Ram not running in the MDS ECO mode?

Does anyone have a suggestion on what is the cause?
