Traded in my 2119 F150 as soon as it was paid off for a RAM 1500 with a 5.7 just to be able to tow a little better and heavier travel trailer
Took my first trip in my 1500 crew cab short bed with a 5.7 without a tow My gas millage on the freeways was great up to 520 miles on one 26 gal tank. In the city I'm lucky to get 350 miles per tank. got to say I love it so far installed a OEM E-break just need to update the computer then I can go shopping for a used travel trailer sold my old one lets see how it does on gas when I'm towing 5,000 LBS It's got to be better than my 2019 F150 that got 9 GPM when towing and couldn't handle a 5,000 LBS trailer.

welcome. you dont say what rear end you have but I have no trouble towing our 6000# 28' travel trailer with my '19 laramie 5.7 with 3.92 gears. I also have the 75hp tranny so I have the 5.0 first gear. I changed out the sway bar to the Helwig stiffer one and I put air bags and run 25# in them when towing. those two things will take out some of the wiggle from the coil springs and I have the 20" Falken wildpeaks so I run more air in them when towing. These trucks have great brakes and I set the controller for 5.5 when towing. I usually get 8.5-10 depending on the terrain and if I stay under 70. I almost always get 19/20 when not towing if I stay under 80. I have the 33 gal. tank and it's nice to see over 600 mile range. I see you in S.A. I am '65 Lee grad

Welcome. you should be fine towing that trailer. I tow a 6000# 28' travel trailer with mine and it does fine. I get 8.5-10 depending on the terrain and if I stay under 70 and I only burn regular unless towing in real hot weather. I changed out the sway bar for the Helwig stiffer one and I added airbags to the rear and put 25# when towing. I have the 20" Falken Wildpeak at3 tires and I run a few more # in them when towing. these tweaks take some of the wiggle out of the coil spring rear end. these trucks have great brakes and for towing I set the controller on 5.5. that seems to be plenty for our trailer but it has 4 wheel electric brakes so you may need to experiment with that a little. I see you in S.A. I'm a '65 Lee grad

There were some good posts on your stuff. I get 12.1 mpg pulling a stock trailer full with hay, about 6,000 lbs more or less. You gonna travel with that much towing, WDH should be used, if you are going any distance, so the tail not wag the dog, LOL. IMHO.

ADDED: I do not use a WDH, but I am only local towing, not traveling.

Towing my Lance 2285 weighing around 6g w/3.92 gears I'm getting 11 mpg average on a flat tow with a few hills to the lake!! I was persistent in looking for the 3.92 knowing gears is important for the tow episode!! Also anti-spin cuz 4 wheel drive is a non use where I live. Trailer brake option was there when purchased and all the necessary options to be comfortable on our trips is very important!! My truck 4th. gen 2016 85000 miles and still doing the job.
