Hello everyone. 2022 Ram 2500 4x4 6.7 Cummins with 46,000 miles. I am hearing this tapping noise intermittently. Sometimes it is there and sometimes it is not. I don't know if this is a common noise, or if there is a potential issue. 5w/40 Valvoline Premium Blue or 5w/40 Rotella T6 used on every oil change with either a Fleetguard or Mopar filter. It has made the noise on and off for quite a while now. No visible metal in oil, and the oil changed every 7500 miles or less. Thank you for your thoughts. Sorry about the dirty truck as our home road is just wonderful.

It's hard to tell what tapping your referring to but nothing stands out. It does sound like the AC is cycling which is normal.
Probably some more ears will will pick up on something.

If you were to ask Ram service they will tell you its normal, yet to date no one knows for sure what the noise is, some trucks just needed a AC moved back and others say maybe a fix some day, but your guess is as good as anyone as to whats going on, I suggest based on experience that you do UOA for next 2 oil changes (use either fleetguard UOA kits CC2543, do not use Blackstone, best place to buy is Genos Garage) to see how well the oil your using holds up and to see if your oil contamination is at as if its at or above 4% I suggest you stop using T-6, when I do my Fleetguard UOA I request for them to use GC, do not not estimate oil fuel dilution if all other value are in normal range as this engine has history of high fuel dilution, adding that they have yet to charge me extras for GC if/when all other oil values numbers are normal...

Thank you for the response. What 5w/40 would you suggest using? Valvoline Premium Blue? I just changed the oil about 500 miles ago.

IMO it will all depend on how much fuel dilution you have, my self would not throw out oil that only had 500 miles on it but not knowing how fast you rack up miles would do a UOA at 5K oil change and the refill with BP to be safe, being my engine has had 4% or higher fuel dissolution I have gone to Amsoil signature 5w40 DEO, but due to it's higher cost next oil change I will use there HD 5w40 ADO ( 3 gallons of it will arrive Monday) that right now is $15 a gallon cheaper and should hold up for 7500 mile/12 month OCI and if not based on UOA then by the time time I need my next oil change the price will have come back down and if not I will do shorter OCI as I'm not willing to pay $52.29 gallon ( that's member price) for there best aka Signature Series 5w40 diesel oil code DEO. BTW if you are a member of Amsoil you can buy there UOA' kits that use the same oil lab and Fleetguard but they may charge an extra $ 7-10 for CG if all other oil values are in the normal range but no extra cost for CG if other oil values are not in the normal range. BTW never buy pre paid postage on oil kits because its cheaper to pay the postage yourself at the post office.... Also I have found out its best to use a separate 8x11 sheet of paper to send in with the UOA sample with all of your truck info they will need as its not easy to write that info in there small sheet of paper they give you. Let me know if you want a copy to use for yourself it will be in MS Word format...

EDIT: When you check your oil level after truck it sitting overnight does the dipstick show higher oil level above the full mark?
