On Dec 23rd the wife and I went to look at a 2022 Laramie 4x4 G/T at a dealer about 70 miles from our home. It was optioned almost exactly as I would have ordered it. I've got a 2021 1500 4x4 Off-Road that I love but I hate the rotary shifter (the G/T comes with a console shifter). Additionally, we're blown away with how incredible the RAM rides and drives and it's now our "go to" vehicle and the wife wants heated and ventilated seats (and a few more creature comforts). We're expecting the ride to be even better without the H.D. Off-Road suspension and chunky tires.
We were OK with paying MSRP. But when it came to valuing our trade they were $5,000 off based on KBB, NADA, and Edmunds "Trade in" valuations (which I checked in advance: avg. $45K). They printed out a KBB page that showed it worth $40K. I didn't even mind that they didn't want to give me full "trade in" value for it, but the sales manager wouldn't do the valuation in front of us to show that he was putting my truck in as it was optioned. If he would have had some integrity and started from the actual "trade in" value on KBB, I would have listened to his argument for not wanting to pay that much. But to start from $40K and act as if he was "bending over backwards to help me" to come up to $41.5K was a bit insulting. (I should note here that while waiting for the same manager to appraise my 2021 RAM, my wife drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee L and we were ready to buy both the RAM G/T and the Grand Cherokee L that day). I was ready to accept the $41.5K trade-in number but asked the manager to throw in a $250 Mopar Bed Divider accessory (I installed one in my 2021 w/6'4" bed but it wouldn't fit in the G/T's 5'7" bed). The manager refused stating that his major move to $41.5K was his final offer. So, the wife and I left.
I still wanted the G/T. So I got a pre-approval from Chrysler Capital to buy the G/T without my trade-in (I'm sure I could sell it for more than $41.5K!). When I called back after Christmas, the dealer refused to sell me the G/T because they feared that I would give them a bad sales survey. They REFUSED to sell me a truck that they had on the lot because they feared that I would tell the truth about how they handled the sales process on the day before Christmas eve. You can't make this stuff up...
I'm still looking for the properly optioned G/T out there! I'm not sure why dealers don't want to order them with the Bed Utility Group but I haven't found many with it (and the few that do are the wrong color). I could order one but then it's a huge gamble as to whether 0% financing will be offered. I'll keep looking...
