2025 Laramie struck by lightning

June 27 my 2025 truck was struck by lightning at my home. The truck was fried, no start, no nothing. I had it towed to the dealer for evaluation. I started a comprehensive claim with my insurer. So far, both batteries replaced, a new BCM , Security gateway module, RFH module, Gateway FD Ethernet SGW. Still no joy. Now the Instrument panel has to be replaced, waiting on parts. So far insurance company is not willing to total. My question is, if they get it “fixed”, what is the likelihood I’ll have future electrical problems…this is a nightmare

Probably less than 100% but more than 50%. Had a VW convertible back in the day, i think its was a 1989, same issue. Along with rain cause top was down, never really got it fixed, when you rolled to a stop sign, use to have to cut off radio, turn down fan, cut off headlights otherwise it would die and have trouble restarting.

We called it powering down the limm like in the movie Apollo 13. Every stop was a flurry of activity

Can't speak about lightening, but I had an out of state accident. Had to get back to work, left the vehicle behind and picked it up when it had been "fixed". Various problems, went back to the insurance company twice over poor repairs. I would think that would still be possible. I would sure be fussy getting it back from the dealership! It isn't fixed till it is all correct.

Well, I'd say the odds of that happening again to you are slim to none, but this item more than likely would have saved it had it been installed beforehand. They say a 100% guarantee against lightning strikes. EMP Shield

@Fp73, did you or a neighbor by chance catch the strike on a Ring camera? That would be wild.

Surge protectors are hit or miss, IMO. Lightning is just so powerful, it goes where it wants to.

Did not get it on cam, but did record right after. Bolt hit oak tree beside truck, travelled along root into truck.

Wow - I guess those steel belts in the tire acted as a conductor. Surprised the tire didn’t blow out. I had that happen to our house once. Lightning hit the tree, traveled across the turf just like that leaving a deep furrow, found my cable antenna lead at the house foundation and blew out a bunch of electronics in the house. I think your now kind of like in the movie, The World According to Garp, from this point on you’re now pre-disastered.

No help, hope they can get all the electronics fixed.

With the amount of stuff they have already replaced, and the amount left to be replaced, I would be pushing for a write off and full buyout by insurance. Then go buy a new one. The idea that the Dealer, even if they are excellent, will get this right for long term use, is slim to none and slim left town.

And that's how it goes, you never know what the strike might have weakened, and then you get the delayed domino effect as things crap out.

I've seen lightning strike power lines at the beginning of a street, go down 5 or 6 houses, and completely blow outlets out of the wall in the last house. I mean disintegrated with a giant flash at the affected outlet(s).

Mother nature can be wild.

What insurance agency.

I t-boned a car that ran a red light. They had F.I.G. (Farmers) that would not total my truck. The truck was new body style with no spare parts. My truck was in body shop from April until October. They finally talked someone into going out on assembly line at the GM plant and pulling a radiator core support off the assembly line and shipping it to the body shop. FIG also has to pay for 6 months rental on a crew cab truck. They would have come out ahead of they would have totaled it.

Sucks this happened, about 18 years ago my dad’s truck (also a ram) was struck. My mom thought someone was breaking into it but the lighting strike actually turned on the lights and radio

I’d have to ask for more info from her because I was pretty young but ended up not having that truck anymore. Not sure if it was completely fried or just not worth putting the money into it.
