Is there a difference in the 6.7 cummins turbo diesel engine of the 2500 and the 3500

Yes the output. 2500 is detuned slightly only making like 850 foot pounds of torque. The 3500 is the high output that makes the full 1k.

from a power output perspective, the 3500 with the Aisin trans will be rated higher than the 2500 with the 68RFE.

Obviously load carrying capacity, trailer pin weight rating and a few other suspension bits will be different as well.

It based on the transmission. Not all 3500's are rated at 1000 torque You can get a 3500 with the 68RFE which will not be the 1000 lb/ft rated.
