Here is a kit pads, rotors, shims/clips, brake clean and brake fluid $285
Rear caliper kit $119
Parking brake shoe kit $31

Do a little snooping you can get cheaper.

There is the major hard parts less the parking brake cable. $440 dollars. Figure approx $50 dollars in rear end fluid and if you must RTV. $2000 dollars in labor?????
If it smells like b****hit and it looks like b****hit, it's b****hit. Putting sugar on **** doesn't make it a brownie!

Just looking for some cost comparison, as I just got a $2500 quote for break work on my 2016 RAM 1500. It has 125k miles so I guess it's not a complete surprise but the total amount did come as a bit of a shock. This place is usually great, and I have been taking my cars and trucks there for years. The pricing info i can find online is not great for this job, thus this post.

For $2,500 they will do

new pads and rotors both axels
new calipers rear axel
Repair seized e-brake (new brake shoes and according to them to install that the rear axel needs to come out, so the diff needs taking apart, new fluid, seal, etc.)

Thanks
Topaz
????

We just did rears on my sons 2018 and we did not have to remove the rear axle shafts. The only reason I could think of for doing that is the necessity of replacing the backing plate.

Dusty

It's because his parking brakes are locked up where the actuators run though the backing plates. The dealer type fix for this is replace the backing plate assemblies, which like you say, can only be removed by pulling the axle shafts.

With some fiddling, penetrating oil, tapping and prying, you can usually free up the actuators. Slather them with neverseize and be good to go.

I thought shop rates in Canada were high. Independents are about 100 an hour. This is about a 4 hour job if you know what you are doing, even if it took them a whole day to do this job, that is only 800 bucks. Parts are ballpark 400. That is still less than half the quote you got. I hope they at least provide the Vaseline and use protection.

I don't understand the caliper replacement. I have had 32 vehicles in my life and I have NEVER had a failed Caliper.
Les Scwab won't do brakes without replacing them. It's just unnecessary!

im guessing not in a salted road area. ive had to replace several.

Can't go wrong with Thermo Quiets. They stand up well.
I have had good luck with the MAXX stuff of Amazon but then I change the rotors when I do the brakes. I have always got good service from the MAXX stuff.
Here in Ontario, you can expect a seized caliper or two from time to time. I've done a couple on my Ram and had to un seize 2 on my Grand Caravan a week after I bought it. Fresh safety and all!!! Lesson learned, the used car swindler promised to pay me back. Never did. I should have reported him by my friend thought he would make good.
When vehicles live in a brine tank like Ontario in the winter, seized brakes and other thing are to be expected.
By the way, the slime ball used car swindler was Auto Max in the south end of Ottawa.

I hear the state of CT is high end, but that seems outrageous. Another shop quote would be my next route. Obviously you can buy and install everything yourself, but may not want to install. If a second shop comes back in the same range, my suggestion is to get a breakdown of the costs. In instances where I just can't do the job for any reason, this is my method and I almost always source my own parts, pay only the labor costs to the shop and usually fair out at better price point.

Another tip: I'm not familiar with the diversity in CT. But, buy the parts and find the professional/licensed/insured Hispanic mechanic if you can. Never fails. I'm doing a bunch of house projects and there were 3 I didn't want to do. Got quotes with breakdowns that were outrages. Found my professional/licensed/insured Hispanic friends, bought all materials and got everything done for half the price for the same quality of work, if not better.
Good Luck!

No it hasn't doubled. I just bought Power Stop rear rotors and front and rear pads
The original post is 4 years old? My guess is the OP has already got it fixed--I bet the cost has doubled because of inflation---LOL
Jay

I just bought Powerstop rear rotors and front and rear pads for a 2021 Grande Cherokee with the large brake package. Parts cost 340 U.S. from Rock Auto. Even paying someone 4 hours to do it rather than doing it myslf, it takes me 2 hours to do front and back, I would be under a $1,000 all in.
