I have been using Purolater oil filter for 60 years and never had a problem until recently.
I have always trusted Purolater.
Today I was changing my oil filter in the 3.6L engine. I noticed a red coating coming off into the filter housing.
Further investigation revealed the oil filter o’ring “Coating” stated to come off and was in the oil filter housing in chunks.
Just to let you know, I change my oil every 3,000 miles or 6 months. Old school I guess.
I told Advance Auto where I bought it, hoping they would be concerned. Nope, not in least.
I called the Purolater customer service, nope, don’t even care.
So I bought another brand filter for a few dollars more.
The attached images were taken after I cleaned out the chunks of coating from the oil filter housing, show they are not shown.
Notice the o’ring was originally black but was coated red.
It might b3 something you all should be concerned about in the future I would suspect. If those cuncks of coating gets past the filter, it will clog oil jets.
