3k miles since lifter cam job

3000 miles on the motor since replacing the cam and lifter.

Just noticed this slight tap walking up to the car ..

Sound normal?

Pretty sure it’s not there at operating temp after driving it down the block

Just confirmed drove it around the block and the noise is gone

We should probably come up with a name for this type of situation, Hemi Phonophobia maybe. I'm always listening to my engine it seems. Always asking myself what did I just hear typically the noise goes away and I don't hear it any more.

I would call that tick-ish, likely a 1 on the hemi tick scale. Normally I wouldn't worry, but since you already replaced the cam, you might invest some times in the hemi lubrication threads. Since it is a dry situation, use the products that are built to address this wouldn't be a bad move? Oil soluble molybdenum dtc is what the industry uses for dry starts. Not mos2 which also can be used for dry starts effectively but has more risky unintended risks. research and consider putting an oil built for this or additive. Change your own oil for a while, cut open oil filters for a while, check for metal.

Especially after replacing the cam and lifters I hear every little sound . That’s why this tick concerns me. Though it does go away when warm. Hopefully it’s nothing or an exhaust leak

This is after he just did his cam / lifter job. So he has new lifters in.

Brand new Mopar lifters and cam in. Not sure they would fail in 3000 miles

Stranger things have happened. Bad part from the box is not unheard of. But his "tick" seems like a minor one.

Some manifolds make the "tick", even without leaking. Heck, the long tube header "ticking" is awesome.

But yours sounds like a mechanical tick. My F150 5.3 tick was way louder than that for 12 years and 100k miles

Don't bother wasting money on new manifolds, take your old ones to a decent machine shop and get them resurfaced. I did that about 3 years ago and it solved the problem. It is only a matter of time for new manifolds to warp because the casting has internal stresses. Old manifolds, by virtue of the repeated thermal cycling, have essentially been stress releived. Resurfacing the old ones will solve the problem.

That's pretty quiet to my ears. It could've been a lifter finally pumping up all the way.

If you hear a ticking from the top of the motor, and not below, it's probably fuel injectors.
