I just bought a 95 2500 4x4 dodge about 2 months ago and when I bought it I tested the 4wd high but not low. High works great but low I am confused on. I have been searching a lot and seems most people can't even get into 4wd low but I can pull it into 4wd low and the 4wd light comes on but when trying to drive It won't move anywhere. Also I have the nv4500 trans and 241 dld transfercase. So its in 4wd low but when I put the trans in any gear and let out the clutch it doesn't move anywhere its like I'm in neutral.

I havn't found anyone with this problem, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice, any is greatly appreciated.

Are you stopping and putting the truck in N before going into 4low?

Have you checked to make sure there is sufficient fluid in the transfer case (and that the fluid does not smell burnt or have metal flake in it)?

I would test the 4wd shift linkage under the truck. Set the E brake, block the tires, put the tranny into N, shift the xcase into 4L get under the truck (not running). Disconnect the shift linkage or loosen off the adjuster, then see if you can move the lever on the xcase (up behind the cardan joint on the xcase)further into 4L. If you can't find 4L then rebuild time it is.

There are rebuild kits on the web, these are not hard xcases to service, just download the fsm and follow it.

The light on the dash is controlled by the CAD on the front diff, the CAD is operated by a vac switch on top of the xcase when you shift it into 4H or 4L, at least you know that works.

Can you post up the numbers on the red tag thats should be on the xcase.
