Was youres ticking on Mobil1 before the switch to Amsoil or only after switching to Amsoil?

To tell u the truth I never noticed it before . Hard to tell because I did my headers and oil change at the same time ....... I’m still not sure the tic I hear is the infamous hemi tic . I think it’s just valve train noise and injector tic

I guess ill contribute by saying i had startup tic on Amsoil 0W40. Redline fixed it and made my 6.4 very quiet.

Redline 10w30 & 5w30 are the perfect oils for a 5.7 hemi.

Just an observation here but it seems that all the cam/ lifter failures here that have been in the 5.7 that they had a steady diet of 5/20 before noticing or trying to fix the tic. I'm just wandering if they had been running 5/30 from the get go if there ever would have been any problems.

If it was injector tick the redline wouldn't have smoothed it out. It was mild hemi tick, there are certainly worst vases. Let us know if you go back to another oil how that works, or how long the redline keeps it quiet if by chance the tick comes back.

Does the tick go away after it’s warm
The hemi engines are known for their exhaust manifold gaskets leaking due to the bolts breaking
I just Had both of mine replaced under warranty on my 2012 Ram 2500 with the 5.7 Hemi

I use Amsoil 5W20 in my 2010 1500 with 5.7 hemi and have had the tic for a while, which goes away after it is warm, but has been taking longer to go away than previous.

Will be checking the exhaust bolts to see if there is a leak.
Will also be switching to 5W30, as that seems to be an easy test to fix the tic.

So many vets here it’s great ... and we all have the same issues.

I too am at Ft Jackson, finishing up my 3rd year on the trail but sticking around to recover from back surgery (12 year Infantryman).

I had the HEMI tick with M1 5w20, switched to PP 5w20 it got quieter, PUP 5w30 better still, finally did (from the research here) Redline 5w30 w/Royal Purple filter and it’s almost non-existent. I will say though that now that the HEMI tick is “gone” I can really hear my broken exhaust manifold bolts clicking and clattering through the exhaust system. Hell, my 6 year old asked what that weird tapping sound was one day and I know he wasn’t talking about the HT. Looks like a trip to the stealership to take care of those (under power train warranty) then headers and HF cats are in my future once there’s a little more time and $$$.

Thanks for your service brother, ft jackson still have a red ant problem? I did my basic there, there wasn't a guy who didn't have any bites on his arms during those pt's. Glad the redline helped.

Still around very much so, in the contonment area, ranges and training areas.

Luckily being a DS I’m not in the dirt much so I really don’t have to worry about it.

I did my time at benning. Plenty of those red ******** on the ranges. I dont miss them at all!
By the way, I found i have broken exhaust manifold bolts. Imagine that?!
Factory uses grade 8 I believe, so i am looking at grade 10 and up to see what my best option is for manifold bolts. Im not a fan of doing things twice.

Went thru basic at benning, was doing reactive drills for mortars walking across a waist high field. A private got bit by a copperhead on his leg. Landed a bird, and took him out.
I said thank god we dont have to go thru...I was wrong. Damn DS made us go thru the same area the snake was in. Lol. I was scared ****less im not gonna lie!
Thank god no one else got bit.

Yep back surgery and also plastic surgery on my face here. Taliban shot two rockets at our european diesel ford ranger Afghan army was driving, (I was in the bed) saw the rockets 80 feet away so I jumped out at 40mph. Truck blew up, and afgan army passengers died. I woke up paralyzed from waist down, had to low crawl 50 feet to cover and fight for 3 hours till air support came. Scary feeling not being able to feel your legs. Here is my pretty face when we got back to the "house". (Excuse the cracked phone screen, had to take a pic of my pic on my old phone.).
I was attached to 20th group SF. Plastic surgery actually turned out great.

Let me know which Grade 10 bolts (size/threads) you get and how they work out.

And sure I’ll buy a brother a beer, hell I got 3 more weeks Con leave to enjoy.

I always feel pretty humbled when I hear/see stories like that. I was AF, so I spent my time in the desert in the CAOC. I was more concerned with being shot by some of our "allies". I have a lot of respect for the guys in the field.

Red ants have always been a problem in the south, had the issue in FL when I was there.

As far as the "tick" mine's gotten worse since I had the oil changed at my usual place. Guess I'll have to start supplying the oil, or doing it myself. I don't really have a place to work on the truck - gravel driveway and a very short car port.

I've heard of a few people going aftermarket for the exhaust bolts, but haven't heard if they hold up better. I've read several times that going to headers will fix the issue, but that's a bit more than I want to spend at the moment. Though if I sell the PC, that'd help...

Yeah there is no way im gonna spend $1600 on a set of headers for a naturally aspirated motor. When i put a roots blower in mine, I will fab up a set of long tubes myself.
