And I see why after looking at the magnet on the drain plug of the MH pan. That's one strong magnet...

Put the MH pan on late last night. I didn't get any pics but here's a few of it installed.

I had a good amount of clearance around the exhaust pipe to put the pan on so I didn't have to unbolt the y-pipe which was awesome. I put a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the gasket because I really didn't want leaks. 3 times changing this pan is enough.

I HIGHLY recommend this pan it's well worth the money. It's extremely well made and fit perfectly. The drain plug has a fairly large and strong magnet on it so every time you change the fluid you have the opportunity to clean the magnet. My trans is running about 5* cooler than before so it's either the extra fluid or the cooling fins. Very happy with this pan!

Awesome , I will likely do this in November .
What fluid did you end up going with ( REDLINE C+ ? ) and how many qts did it take with this pan ?

I've seen 3 diff Qty s mentioned on diff sales sites for the 45RFE pan from Mag-Hytec. ..

I had 10 quarts of Castrol TransMax left so I used that. It took exactly 8 quarts and it was perfectly on the bottom hot dot. I was going to use the C+ I just got but I figured I'd use the TransMax up and do a drain and fill of C+ later this year or possibly in the spring...

I used 11 quarts on mine with the no step 68rfe pan, so I would say around 8 1/2 to 9 would do for the stepped pan

Figured I'd post this here since I guess this is a somewhat uncommon problem with the 545/65/66/68RFE trans but it does occur.

If this ever happens DON'T try to force the shifter to move or the cable will break. Looks like a pretty straightforward repair...

for my 66RFE ( the 65RFE brother)

just thought id share some detailed pictures of the filters. wanted to make the first filter purchase at the dealer so it is clearly on record. I may have payed a little more but it is an assurance I will pay for. $73 out the door for the 2 filters and the MOPAR brand pan sealant. after Michigan 6% tax

notice that the name on the underside of the pan filter says "MICRO FELT" must not be paper... signs point to felt. LOL. when I looked inside the spin on filter it looks like a cellulose filter.

EDIT: also not that the threads on the spin on filter are some kind of composite, maybe fiberglass/plastic. almost like a Ruger pistol frame.

Thought it would help somebody. I was surprised to see the plastic threads on the spin on filter and the plastic backing on that pan filter. In the end plastics are still very strong. Afterall they did make 8speed transmission pans out of plastic. lol

Follow the tightening instructions on the spin on filter and you will be fine.

My Google search foo sucks at the moment but I have seen metal replacement threaded adapters for the spin filter for those that worry about such things.

After putting my MH pan on, I've noticed my shifts are slightly but noticeably quicker. Not sure if it's the extra fluid capacity of the MH pan or that the trans should have mostly Castrol fluid at this point. My truck only has 22k so I can't see how the factory fluid would be that bad at 22k. Thoughts?

My guess is it's the fluid and not the pan or more capacity. I know everybody preaches that ATF +4 has to meet the same standards as all the other ATF +4's..... But here's my caveat. Oils can meet standards of ATF +4 all they want, so why can't they meet the standards and then be slightly better or maybe a lot better? Technically they'd still be within the standard right....?

If you know what I mean

I think it's the fluid in conjunction with, and this is just a guess from out in left field, maybe your transmission is starting to "break in" .

I agree, I think it's the fluid itself.

Another thing I found when I changed to the MH pan (third time dropping the pan) was that there was no fine grey coating on the internals like there was the other two times I dropped the pan I can only assume this was clutch material and/or non ferrous break in metal. Doubt this has anything to do with it but figured I'd mention it
