I took truck to dealer and had them look at the screen on my '19 Classic and their official assessment was that they see nothing abnormal at all other than a few finger prints that should wipe off. I bought truck used to I have no idea when this started but what I see are not finger prints. I guess I see things other's can't.

I've read the thread on delamination and my screen looks different that those pics (those were larger bubbled looking areas). I had a 2015 with the smaller screen and after 125K miles, the screen looked brand new. This is not normal to me.

Suggestions?

This is a common problem with the 18 and Classic trucks with the 8.4" screen. There are several posts on it. It's usually caused by the anti glare screen delaminating from the actual screen. If your truck is still under warranty I recommend contacting @RamCares to see if they can assist you if the dealer doesn'twant to address the issue. If your truck is no longer under warranty you can actually remove the anti glare screen.

You are right, it doesn't appear your screen is delaminating. Instead, your factory anti glare screen is worn. It is very soft and marks easily. I've noticed even scraping the surface with a credit card removes a dust like layer from the factory anti glare.

I recommend going over it with this protector. As long as there are no gouges it should go right over the factory coating and make those blemishes disappear (so long as the screen is cleaned before application).

You can also remove the factory anti glare and apply the new screen protector directly to the factory glass.

In both cases, apply the screen protector with the radio removed and/or the radio bezel removed.

Thanks for the info. I'll try dealer yet again since it's still under warranty. Really surprised they don't see anything wrong with it but I'll probably have to meet with service manager.

Technically, they are correct. Nothing is wrong with it because they all do what yours does relatively quickly.

Mine isn't as bad as that, it's in specific locations I touch frequently. I need to get the dealer because I want it swapped out. I find something meant to be touched wearing out from being touched in under a year to be unacceptable. It's clearly a defect with some of the Panasonic units, because the previous Harman units didn't do it, and they seemed to have updated the actual screen p/n on the newest units.

Different screen part number, different radio. You will not likely be successful unless your screen is actually delaminating (digitizer separating from LCD panel).

There is a different p/n for the actual screen on the newer 8.4 radios even on the Gen 4 Rams, perhaps the '20 and '21's, but it's still the same radio. They obviously found out there was a problem, and the did something different with the coating hence the different p/n. I think it's whatever number -02 now, wear as it was a -01 before. The coating wearing off is not at all what I would consider normal or acceptable.

If you're referring to LA084X01 (SL01 vs SL02), I have seen no difference in the factory screen protector. The only SL02 screen i saw came from a 2019 classic (same as OP). When you mentioned the older RA4s I assumed that's what you were referring to with regards to part numbers.

As far as I know, all 8.4 radio factory anti glare coatings are identical on LA084X01 (SL01) or (SL02) and will show wear rapidly. It's also likely, that they revised the part if/when they changed the LOCA used between the digitizer and LCD (or some other revision not evident on the outside).

That being said. If you get lucky and receive a replacement radio, place screen protector on it good immediately.

I want to put a screen protector on mine, but worried the tempered glass will add weight on the factory anti glare screen and possibly cause delamination over time? Or if you buy the plastic type, if you ever had to remove it, would seem pretty easy to damage the factory screen? Torn here, whats the lesser of the 2 evils @SitKneelBend

Go for it. After inspecting and disassembly of a delaminating screen I can tell you a screen protector will have no effect. The delamination occurs between the outer glass digitizer and the inner LCD panel. All the aforementioned parts are held together by a metal screen retainer that would stop the scenario you describe from occurring.

The cause appears to be improperly cured LOCA (adhesive used on LCD panels). I've tried to complete the curing of the partially cured LOCA on a delaminating screen but it remains in a greasy partially cured form that can still flow with high ambient temperatures. Essentially the LOCA is flowing out from the top and/or corners of the bad screens and pooling on the bottom of the radio's screen retainer.
