All gases have ethanol in them now no matter the octane.

shells top grade gas in canada is ethanol free. Coop (in western canada? don't know if you guys have it) has ethanol free in their top grade as well.

If I was worried about the ethanol, I would use Startron available at Canadian tire in my gas tank. its an ethanol inhibitor. i use it in my occasional use engines (snowblower, lawnmower, motorbike) all the time.

2015 Ram 1500, 5.7, 8 speed, 3.21 rear end. Ran 87 octane for 3000 miles since I bought it used. Last weekend I switched to 89 octane and my mileage went up over 4 MPG highway. More than pays for the extra cost.

I use 87 bought from Sam's Club, my other option there is 93. My wife's BMW drinks 93 and needs it, my truck only has 1k miles but I haven't heard a ping, if I do I will do something else.

You may never hear a ping, if the computer does its job and pulls timing aka power.

89. Worth the extra $$ for better MPG and no pinging. Who wouldn't spend a few bucks to make their truck run better?

That’s always been my philosophy. Let the truck run at its max capability.

People will spend hundreds of dollars a year on unnecessary higher octane gas but a $300 intake with dyno/track proven results and improved fuel efficiency is a waste. :emotions33:

Send me the $10-20 to donate per fill-up for .3 mpg and 6 bhp. “But my dream-o-meter says it’s 4 mpg better”, ok Peter Pan.

2019 5.7 I ran all brands and octanes and never a ping or really any difference. 2021 5.7 and I've run 89 and tanks of 87 and again no difference. Tried some 87 ethanol free and now bad pinging. I added 20 gallons of 93 at fillup and still bad pinging under har acceleration. What now?
I've had a 17 5.7 3.92, 19 5.7 3.21 and neither pulled as hard as my current 21 5.7 3.92. It almost feels like it's pulling too hard. Maybe I should try some diesel. Just kidding.

ECU may need to adjust, go back to the fuel before the non-ethanol, it will probably clear up on it's own.
My owners manual say's 89, 87 in a pinch only when 89 isn't available and you lose the engine warranty running 87 consistently.

Where does it say that you would lose any part of the warranty by running 87 consistently? From what I've seen most people don't run anything but 87 and even the dealer around here don't want to talk about using 89. Here's part of the description for a 2021 Laramie with the 5.7 with eTorque:

I'm a big believer in octane, when the cost difference between octane fuel use to go up in 10 cent increments I bought 93 octane regardless. Now that they changed it to 30 cent increments I don't do it. I got a Diablo tuner with the Hemifever 87 and 93 octane tunes so I run the 87 tune and octane the majority of the time. I'll run 89 octane occasionally sometimes but don't see a lot of difference. If you buy 20 gallon of fuel it cost $6 more between 87 to 89 and $12 difference between 87 to 93 so it's everyone's decision.

I use 89 in my truck. I pretty much always used 89. I had a couple vehicles that did not like 87 so switched to 89.

I was wrong, page 469 of my manual states problems occurring from using more than E-15 affects warranty, sorry my bad lol!

The picture you posted recommending regular unleaded is from a dealer, not FCA.

My manual states on page 469 the following:
5.7L Engine 89

"this engine is designed to meet emissions regulations and provide satisfactory fuel economy and performance when using high-quality unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 to 89 as specified by the (R+M)/2 method. The use of 89 octane "plus" gasoline is recommended for optimum performance and fuel economy"

The only time the word "recommended" is used regarding gasoline states 89 with a little box around it, that's what FCA recommends, says you can use octane between 87 and 89 but clearly states they recommend 89

So for that dealership to print a form that says "regular unleaded is recommended" is false advertising and wrong. We know gas price will scare some folks from buying a truck in general, now add the fact you should be running plus grade gas and they run off a few more prospective buyers.

I find it funny some folks will spend all the money on high end oil and filters above what is recommended by the manufacturer, change it more frequently than recommended and then swing into the cheapest gas station they can find.

That's like joining the gym, quit drinking and smoking but eating at McDonalds...........
