I thought it stopped all together because my temps creeped up pretty high at a stop light. I have a 180 T-state with the lower fan temps set.

Did'nt think nothing of it, until I got home and shut it off. I usually hear the A/C fan shut down but it was quiet. Started it back up, turned the A/C on it's not moving.
So, ordered the V6 fan. Type for a upgrade I guess. lol

Drove home from work and the temps got past 200 and pop the hood to just to make sure it's not moving and what do you know. It's moving but REAL slow.. lol

So now I feel like even the with the V6 fan, I might have the same problem. Is something else I should check or is the fan motor just not able to go into high speed?

Thanks
Steven

Bad relay? Bad fuse? Checked voltage at connector? As far as I know the hemi motor electric fan is either on or off. No low speed setting as it’s original design was as an assist for the mechanical fan under extreme conditions or for ac.
Edit: v6 fan is used high as well. It only goes into low speed if the computer tells it. The hemi wiring harness does not have the proper wiring for low speed

What brand V6 fan do you have?

Don't have the V6 fan yet. I bought one thinking my a/c fan is dead. So might at well remove the clutch fan too.

Sorry about that. I did the check the fuse. It looked fine. The box looking fuse.
Are the relays in the fuse box also? I didn't think to check them.

That makes sense about no low speed, because you can definitely hear it when it's on. I guess maybe the clutch fan was making it move pulling in air. I could have sworn though it wasn't moving before and the truck was on.

From my understanding the V6 fan swap is supposed to keep the truck cool without the clutch fan?
I'm confused though that wiring harness does not have wiring for low speed but the computer will tell it when to go into low speed. Wouldn't that mean it does have wiring for it?

Thanks for your help.

Ok. I did just try and hook up 12 volts directly to the fan plug and nothing happens.

I will say, the last few months. I have noticed the fan making a different noise when it was on. Like a very low groaning noise, almost like bearings sound when they go bad.

The v6 fan helps open up the engine bay by having a smaller shroud and reduces drag on the motor from turning the mechanical fan. Some people leave the stock ac fan if they can. If you hooked the fan up and it’s not running and you made sure proper polarity then sounds like bad fan. I would still check voltage at your connector to be 100%

I'm pretty sure you can't leave the stock fan on. The V6 fan replaces it.
But yes I do understand the purpose of taken off the stock clutch fan.

No way they both can fit.

Sorry. I didn’t explain well. Some people don’t buy the v6 fan. They will just run the stock ac fan. In states where it doesn’t get super extremely hot they can get away with it.

Oh ok. Yeah I've heard of people doing that..
Now way I could do that in Louisiana. lol

I’m in Florida. I don’t even want to remove the clutch fan. Lol

hahaha.
Right

Well from the looks of it. I have to remove the clutch fan to get to the AC fan. So might as well install the V6 fan.

Just a little update.

Put my volt meter on the plug. Turned the A/C on and it got 14 volts on the Green/blue wire. So I guess it has to be the fan.

Yea. I’d say you are right. Glad you’ve got it figured out

A new AC fan and a V6 fan are about the same price so you might as well go with V6 fan. If you haven't already I'd go with a 180 tstat with the V6 fan. Ive towed my camper in Florida in 90° heat and the v6 fan kept up with it fine. Never saw the coolant break 200°...

So, I had a hell of a time getting the clutch fan off until I saw a video of a guy using a air hammer. lol

That got it off real quick.

Got the V6 fan installed and everything is fine now. Coolant temps stay around 185* with my 180 T-stat and lower turn on fan temps.

This fan does blow some air. lol.
I have read a that putting lock tite on the fan bolt that holds it too the motor. Some say it has come loose.

Yep, air hammer on the clutch fan nut left hand thread. So you put the mechanical fan back on with an upgraded electric and 180 stat?

So little review after a week of installing it.

Temps stay around 183-185 which is about what it did with the clutch fan and stock e-fan.

One thing that's different is when going WOT, the coolant temps rises up a good bit but it will come down after a while. The old setup I don't recall temps going up much.

Power wise. It feels a tad more peppy, nothing crazy but after driving my truck for so long. I can tell a little difference.

Will make working on the front of engine easier. Plenty of room.

Let the coolant get up to 196 before turning the fan on, otherwise you’ll be replacing them often as it won’t allow cycling. No performance lost, other option is run a 160T or Milodon.

I doubt the coolant would ever get that hot with a 180 T-stat.

What was interesting before I put the V6 fan in. I had to drive it to work that week before with just the clutch fan. Temps did get in the upper 190s - 200s. Went the temp hit 194. The Rpms dropped tp 500. I about freaked out thinking something is wrong with the truck, but after thinking it. I guess it was the MDS dropping to 4 cylinders. .

I don't ever remember it doing that. hahahaah
My exhaust even sounded funny which I remember a lot of people saying that on here.

Just swapped my tstat out to the 190 I have over the weekend. My truck runs 192-194 with the stock clutch fan
