2007 Dodge Ram, 5.7 Hemi - not able to charge AC unit. Checked operation of blower, cleaned condensor, clutch engages on condensor. Using only standard single line with gauge to charge. Gauge goes up when compressor turned off (as it should I believe) but goes to zero when compressor on. ANy help appreciated. Taking long trip this weekend, Need AC

Sounds like a leak some where. Put UV dye in the system to find it. If it’s the evaporator the dye will leak out of the drain. You may see it on the ground or coming out of the drain hose.

Not seeing any leaks, the system doesn't even seem to draw any coolant in? I know over pressure can be an issue also, but I get no cold air at all.

What your saying doesn't make any sense.
If the pressure gauge is dropping to zero while running there shouldn't be any problem with adding refrigerant.
If it's not rising from zero while adding refrigerant, most likely a restriction in the system. Also the pressure shouldn't be dropping to zero while the compressor is running, it should get to able 25-30 psi then the compressor should cycle off.
You might might check if your local auto parts store loans AC gauges as your might not be working correctly
