So today I went to vacuum out the inside of my truck and figured I would utilize the AC plug in the truck to plug the vacuum into. I turned the truck on, hit the activation switch and the light on the switch turned on and I could hear the click on the AC plug as it activated. As soon as I plugged the vacuum in, the light turned off on the switch and I got no power.

Anyone experienced this issue or have any ideas as to why this would be happening? I'd rather try and fix it myself without taking it in.

A vacuum is too much load on that I would assume.

This. A vacuum will make your house lights dim when initially turned on. I can't imagine trying to run it off your truck battery.

You will probably want to check the fuse for that plug. Probably popped when you plugged the vacuum in. It's more for small electronics/charging than anything really.

This AC outlet is rated for 115V at 150 Watts. Best to check the wattage requirement for the device you are plugging in, if you don't know the wattage requirement for the device being used, the maximum current (amps) that can be drawn is watts divided by voltage, which in this case is 150W/115V = 1.304 Amps. Pretty light load capabilities, and I imagine that a vacuum would draw around 5 or 10 amps at startup? Likely blew the fuse if it won't turn on anymore, I'm not sure but it might be a circuit breaker too.

Welp...that makes sense! It still turns on, it just automatically kept shutting off as soon as the vacuum was plugged in. Thanks for the answers guys...I'm hanging my head in stupidity shame haha.

Couldn't have said it better, you can also figure it as I (current) times E (voltage).
