Air intake replacement filter

Yep, I stick with the reason I bought mine "For the looks" Anything I got extra is ok with me. I still like the "Old school looks" LOL

Old School Looks: Had a 67 Impala SS with the old L4 Big Block 396. Had no $$$ in those days, and wanted to get more air into the TrashChester Carb. So we took off the lid of the air cleaner and put back on upside down, so had a 1" gap between lip and edge. Forced more air into carb and "sounded" neat, LMAO.

Yep, turning the air cleaner lid upside down made a Thermoquad (Mopar) and a Quadrajet (GM) moan to where you could hear them a mile away!

YUP, sounded so Kool !!!!!!! Them POS Rochester spring loaded junk, LOL. I disconnected the thermal on the choke and used a hand choke to set it where I wanted in, LOL.

And if so, will it be better or should I stick to the original?

Original. Replace every 30k. Repeat. No over oiling or other nonsense.

The reason I do NOT like K&N is because if you look closely at them. They have pinholes in them therefore letting DIRT come thru. I have one on mine and as soon as I can find something that can hold up to the air being pulled by the supercharger that K&N is GONE.

I know I won't be popular saying this but I won't use a K and N air cleaner again. I had a 2009 Charger RT with one and I kept it clean and didn't over oil it but I had to clean my throttle cleaned. I had to do it several times. I think this is because of the oil from the cleaner.

That's the way the oil-impregnated filters are designed to work; the oil saturates the material, filling in the pinholes and forcing the air to pass through the oil which is meant to cause any particles up to a certain size to get trapped in the oil.

It's not like a dry filter, where the air passes freely through the pinhole; it's more like a b_o_n_g, where the smoke passing through the water is meant to filter out some of the particulates in the absence of a solid filter.

I had a 69 hemi long block that I got from a machine shop that blueprinted it for the cost of the machine work. I needed an air cleaner and the only ones available were very expensive. Especially in 1969 dollars. I got a 5/16 aluminum plate and cut it to fit over the carbs to hold the factory filter. I had a 7/16 piece of tempered glass made for the top. Talk about looks! I sure wish I had the pictures, but in the last 50 years they seem to have evaporated.

no one liked the looks of the oil bath filters & many ppl use to mishandle them & spilled oil all over the engine compartment
