Which software for it? Apk or PC?
With pc you are locked to the device..

Apk, thus Android on PC. Found that software when setting up my personal weather station. Turns out it can be used as an android device and download everything from Google Play even though you are using a Windows PC...very cool.

So the OBD II will work with my 16? I’ve read other blogs on not being able to do this on the “newer” rams? But if yes , then I will probably go that route . I really don’t wanna alter anything or cut wires . Thanks guys! [emoji1360]

Yes it will work on your 16. Not sure what you read or where you read it. The 13 to 17 Rams work plug and play. The 18 Rams require a harness to bypass the security module that simply plugs in. There are no cut wires with either one.

One word of advice is don't buy a cheap knockoff OBD adaptor. Use the OBD Link MX or MX+. What you may have read and got confused with is people buying cheap adapters and have to re pin different wires in the (OBD connector not the truck) when they tried to use it to go into certain modules the OBD Link MX will do all this automatically.

I think he was referring to the thread he started asking about wiring in the DRLs- https://www.ramforum.com/threads/drl’s.138333/
Then we steered him over here.

I read this elsewhere and wondering if I missed something?

As of April 10th 2016, ALFAOBD is able to perform proxy alignments, add sales codes and enable dealer level options on your vehicle. If you add a sales code or enable any settings under the car configuration active diagnostic on the BCM you will need to perform a Proxy alignment immediately to prevent module misalignment

Hey guys

First time posting on this forum and let me also say I've read just about ever single page of this thread! This is by far one of the best AlfaOBD threads, for an FCA vehicle, regardless if it's a Ram or not. With that said, I do not own a Ram (who knows might be my next vehicle as I wouldn't mind going back to a pickup) but we do have an 18 Durango GT and a 14 Grand Cherokee Overland. Essentially, the same BCM settings apply from Rams to those two vehicles and I've already made a few simple changes to the GC. The Durango is about to get it's tow package turned on and just awaiting on a bypass module.

This leads me to my question. I know on this forum there has been a ton of you that added the trailer / cargo cams which added the CSM buttons. Would you guys happen to know if there is anyway on a '14 to activate the "backup camera" button on the 8.4 radio? Our Durango has it, but that one is a 8.4 UAQ radio. (it allows you to view the backup camera for a few seconds while not in reverse. you can check your hitch, or better yet spy on the girl walking behind your car) Not sure if that's specific to a newer camera module, the UAQ radio, or if it's just a 17+ feature.

Thanks guys,
Mario

The backup camera button option wasn't available until 2016 on the Ram trucks. It's not in the BCM to enable on the 13 to 15 trucks. If you can't find the setting in the BCM on your 14 Grand Cherokee it's most likely because it was never an option.

Ugh. That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I don't suppose that's a valid reason to tell the wife we need to upgrade to either a new one or a maybe a new Ram?

Proxi alignments are for FCA vehicles that use a slightly different topography, like Cherokees, darts and fiats. If I change something on our Cherokee or swap a radio, if I don’t run the proxi, I’ll get the flashing odometer. Changes are immediately recognized after running it, as opposed to rams that have to learn what happened.

I need help.

I have a 2016 Ram Rebel with the 8.4 radio RA3 which NAV was added.

Somehow in using the AlphaOBD I suspect I changed a setting on the radio unit and now the XM and the SD card reader do not show up plus the radio fm and am does not work at all. NO tuning or sound evident.

Bluetooth is working and music will play.

Does anyone know what the ALPHAOBD setting should be?

Noticed something interesting last night. About a week ago I installed a oem headlight switch with fog control, made my own harness with correct pins for the front end harness (thanks again to @Jimmy07) and added some cheap flush mount led's for fogs. Enabled fogs and LED fogs through alphaobd. I noticed when engaging highs the fog light icon stayed on, so when I got home checked and the fogs stayed on. Just checked my logs after enabling the fogs the dropout is still in its original setting, not set.

Were you connected to the radio or body Computer? You can check your logs to see what you may have changed. It will take a few minutes going through but you should be able to figure out what changed

So I finally received everything I need to get my 2018 1500 connected to AlphaOBD. Im am trying to create my initial log file and ensure I can view it properly.

I think I have the log file created and uploaded to my google drive account but as an apple user Im sort of fumbling through the process.

I know people have been using notepad++ to view their files. When I downloaded the app to my kindle fire 7 I was still unable to view the file. I also use a MacBook and am unaware of an app that I can use to view these files as well.

Does anyone have a good app for apple users to view these types of files? Is there a step by step showing how to create your initial log file? Please excuse my ignorance I tried to research as best I could before posting. I want to make sure I'm documenting properly before I start making changes. Sorry for the long post. Thanks

Edit: Well of course I figure it out after I post. For some reason my original attempt at uploading my log file didn't contain any information. When attempting again I was able to uploaded the full file. TextEdit on Mac seems to work fine for anyone who was wondering. Time to go finally activate my DRLs! :)

Select the settings icon. Towards the bottom make sure you select LOG RECORDING.

I don't think it matters what your connected to but press the tool icon, select UPLOAD TO GOOGLE DRIVE, UPLOAD FAULTS AND STATUS LOG, most changes are logged in the body Control so select BODY_CHRYSLER_INFO. A screen will come up allowing you to enter a title, what folder in Google drive. Then press save.

For viewing, I have a windows based laptop, I log onto Google drive through chrome, and use one of the note pad extensions for Google drive than copy and paste into Word.

One thing to note, your most current log will be at the very bottom of the log file saved.
